Make brake and throttle cables

Anyone have any experience making replacement brake and throttle cables for a yerf dog? The replacement cables are a little steep for my boys budget.

Be careful, depending on what type of brake system you have, & bicycle brake cable may or may not be strong enough; I recommend a stronger cable for the brake...

A bicycle shifter cable will be ok for the throttle cable...
