Hi guys just joined this forum. I was looking to build a street legal bike with the following specs
-8 HP (301cc) Predator engine or the 6.5 HP (212cc) Predator
-upgrades i would like to do to engines(please tell me if these are worth it
I was thinking about doing the following upgrades remove the governor, upgrade the valve springs, straight pipe exhaust, high flow air filter, rejet carburetor new spark plug, reduce the drag in the fan of the engine, increase compression, bigger jet hole. Will these upgrades allow me to reach higher speed?

-how many teeth should I have on the cluth and axel? I would like to hit 60 mph(i know that is hard).
-what else can I do?
Also is it possible to use a bike gear shiftier on a motorcycle?

Looking to build a chopper I know this is the wrong area to post it but need help

It seems it is a bit more active here so I would like to ask for help. Any advice is appreciated.

Are you asking if you can add a motorcycle transmission to a minibike?

Sure.

You'll have to select the right donor, as most light motorcycles have the tranny integral with the engine.

With limited hp and a 60 mph goal, you are going to need a transmission. Unless you skitch buses to get up past 30. :)

If you meant a bicycle gearset - no, it will not handle the power. If you try it, make sure your GoPro is running the first time you try a derailleur shift at speed and under power.

One other thing - modifying your motor to make more power also means it produces more heat. Simultaneously reducing the amount of air it blows to cool itself might not be the best idea for engine longevity unless you will never ride beyond walking distance home.

Do you mean like a standard 7 speed road bike shifter or a motorcycle transmission? A bike shifter would probably fail pretty quickly if powered by an engine.

Honestly I think you'd be better off just buying a motorcycle and fixing it up some. I don't think you could get 60mph from a predator motor, and depending on skill, it would be a lot of work to build a frame to handle 60mph.

To build a 60mph predator engine would be a lot of time and money to invest.

If you really want to build something with a shifter that goes 60, then you should use a motorcycle or dirt bike engine and transmission. I've seen 150cc chinese motorcycles that could go 70mph.

I just noticed the double post, so I'll copy my reply here too, until someone combines these threads or something.

The short answer is with the upgrades mentioned and the stock rod...it's probably not going to live long. I saw no mention of a billet rod.

IIRC...Grape Ape (or perhaps a couple of his buddies) run the stock flywheel with an offset key and every other fin cut off...but they are racers...

No, no, and no..... You can't make it street legal either, as far as I know.... Your location filled in would prevent me from asking where you're from.... Have you seen any such contraptions like that, street legal?
A bicycle running gear will not hold up to an 8hp engine.....

Not so true, dear sir..... You can make a 1hp go kart hit 60 mph..... Just depends how fast you want to get there..... And how.
Here is prime example...... My mini bike has a reproduction 2 speed transmission and I can mathematically and truly do 55+ mph. Now, it has a gx160 (5hp) engine that I "modded" my way..... Now, if I had a 212 to use, I would do the same mods and change my final gear for more speed because the 212 would take care of the grunt....
The same can be said of my personal kart, that I recently sold. With the same engine, I GARUNTEE you that you could hit 60..... I have a video somewhere, of my last ride.... Not able to do a donut on pavement, but could in light gravel/dirt....
In my personal, educated, opinion...... You can not get a better bang for your buck than the predator brand engines. Most specifically the 212.... I 😍 this bad @++ power house.....
But to the op,...... No...... :roflol:

I agree that you could make anything go fast, but you would be lacking torque to the point where you may not be able to get moving without help.
I bought a project kart that was geared so poorly that it could theoretically go over 300mph, but you couldn't even get it moving without pushing it.

Also, I know that self assembled titles can be gotten in some states, but it requires a lot of work.

That is a 7 speed bicycle gear set and derailleur. That's why Bwdeaton said he'd like to see it (the "Tri-kart") coming apart. A ticking time bomb--just gas it to set the timer. :D

is there any transmission that will fit on a 212cc predator? Im sorry for the stupied questions guys still learning this :/. Also im not sure if this is against the rules but my craiglist is here https://phoenix.craigslist.org/ are there any engines that might work well? I may also restore a bike. Looking around 200cc and above.

For predator engine will be able to get either centrifugal clutch or a torque converter.
No company offers a manual clutch transmission designed to fit these type of motors. Any solution to add a manual clutch to this engine would be custom work and custom usually means expensive.

Have your engine turn a generator. Drive with an electric motor. Add a battery as a buffer.

Maximum torque off the line and you can drive the real wheel with a belt.

Been thinking about doing a small wood boat like that. A weed eater mounted to 60 amp car alternator, running to small mower battery. To power a trolling motor.....
