Yeah just fit a new cord. It will cost $5 at the most, wheras a new recoil could cost $50!

Usually, once the recoil is off, you just need to remove a bolt, and then you can tie a new rope onto the pulley.
Be careful of the spring, if the oily b*stard flies out, it takes a bit of a knack to get it back in. The first time putting a recoil spring back in it took me about 20 mins. It now takes me about 3.
