Looking For Kids Race Kart Roller

If any of you see any kids race kart chassis on your local CL can you let me know. USA only that is. Can be any state in the lower 48. I am good and talking sellers to Greyhound Karts.

Under $500 for the a Roller. I got a local guy that wants to pay me to build a Bar Stool Racer for him. He is going to pay me $2500. My budget is $1500. Thats gives me $1000 for my time.

He does not want a briggs or clone style motor. He wants overkill on the motor. He does not want it to be practical but be able to drive it if he wants to. It will go in and next to his show truck at car shows. He said the louder the better

I also need info on Racing karts axles. For I will be putting lots of HP on the kart. I am not a race kart guy. So what should I look for axles? Kids kart axle info?

Would love to put a harley engine in the BSR. Just wishing though. But you never know. Sporter engine would be sick. The reason I want a kids race kart is the size. The wheel base is already short. I think it will be a perfect match. Right???

My last BSR. It was originaly a factory Yamaha race kart. I took the steering hoop. Flipped it around and welded to the front for the steering shaft bushing.

I think starting with a kid kart is a good Idea. (also use the Cadet kart/Cadet racer/Baby Kart search terms)

You'll find that lots of Sprint kart racetracks have a website with a classified section... (and quite a few have kid/cadet classes with dads that end up selling off their kids racers)

The classified over on bobs4cycle forum would be a good place to look for a deal too.

Most any racekart/kidkart axle-setup should handle 20 or 30hp pretty well.
Diameters range from 1-1/4"/30mm/40mm or maybe 50mm.

I posted on some BSR racer thread here awhile back about using some type of quick-release, sliding/adjustable bar stool mount system. I think you posted on that thread too. You might look that old thread up, I still think that idea is the way to go if you want it to turn well and also have a chance at decent high speed stability.

I remember you reported steering issues with your old BSR. I was researching those old Yamaha brand chassis like you used awhile back. I found quite a few old timers claiming that chassis never really turned all that well back in the day compared to other choices. i think one old racer made the comment that "you needed half an acre to make a turn... He was making a joke, but not really...

Only reason I'm telling you all this now is: if you use most any, more modern-designed race kart for this build, It'll probably end up turning/handling way better than your old BSR did.

I think a really low, poppy exhaust would sound awesome. Something that just grumbles and growls then roars when you give it gas. I can't wait to see this build.

Yep the main problem was to much weight on the rear wheels. This was my first kart build as an adult. I found this site after all the steering problems. If I have been a member during the build it would of been much better.

I was able to get it to drive on medium speeds pretty good. Around 20 it got scetchy being so short wheel base. The stool was to far back and over the axle. Front was to light. I sold the BSR for a good profit. I took that money and bought my Yellow Ody racer. Plus Summit Racing sent me $200 gift card and a killer summit race team jacket. The Stool was on there facebook home page as well.

One thing that helped the most was to put the little factory tires back on. it drove much better. My old man said something about scrub radius with the big slicks. I am scared really to deal with steering again. Thats why I am wanting a kids chassis to start.

The stool part will be like this design in the first 3 pics. Also some other radicals BSR's I like. Also the factory yamaha racer Ander was talking about. My BSR above started life as one of these.

Hey i was thinking It'd be cool if you could devise some means of a device that could easily/quickly lock (or unlock) 2-halves of a rear axle. That way your customer could have the wide rear tires he probably wants, but he could switch the rear axle to the open position for way improved turning ability.

It would definitely take a lot of extra work, but I got a few ideas bouncing around in my head that should work great for this.

What if there were 4 bearings supporting the axle, 2 for each half. And then, in the center, the axle is cut. In my mind, the axle would be keyed on both sides for extra strength in this system I'm thinking. Then there would be a sleeve on one of the axle halves with keystock inside. You would line up the 2 halves' keyways and slide this sleeve from entirely on 1 half to half way over each, effectively making it a solid axle.

Yep, I was thinking the same method red. But using a wheel hub like this for the sleeve, except with the wheel studs removed:

(you'd just need to loosen that Allen bolt, line up the keyways and slide it over)
