A 40 series with a GENUINE COMET BELT will be more than capable of handling that engine and kart.
Oh, really? I plan on building the engine overtime! I wasn't sure what you thought the max HP a Genuine Comet belt would handle on a 40 series, I plan on adding:
-stage 1 kit (exhaust, spark, intake)
-308 cam
-billet flywheel
-billet connecting rod
-Mikuni 34mm round slide carb
-Bullfrog ported head milled to .040
-6 degree offset key

also looking for other upgrade recommendations to make the engine more reliable! I understand more performance parts=less reliability.

Looks like it says "Trail Runner" across the floor pan... just saying.

I think it could be a model 2906 6 HP (due to the bench style seat) but the model 2911 11 HP version had a 40 series TC or a weird combination thereof:
Series 500 Driver (Salisbury)
TC-40 Driven

Anyway, yes. Obey Denny, get a 40.
whoops! yeah I totally missed the name right on the floorboard :')

I run a 40series on my hopped up 301 and have had had zero issues.
I realize 420 is a little bit more, just throwing my two cents.
That’s fantastic to know! I’ll go with the 40series with a Comet belt, if I have any issues with it on the build I’ll post it here and upgrade!

Feed it 100% gasoline, 0% ethanol. That’s what I and many others here do, religiously. Ethanol is bad news for carburetors and some older fuel lines and maybe even the fuel lines rated for ethanol fuel. I am constantly running “last years gasoline” through my machines too due to the seasonal gap, and it’s still good, no Stabil added neither.

If you were really serious about reliability, you’d run it in factory condition and governed at a max 3600 revs 😁

The racing hi performance cone filters have turned out to be bug filters, we have found. Seems this air filter style stems from the “street tuner” Fast and Furious crowd and are no good for off-road with its fine airborne dirt particles and sand, etc. I’d get really serious about air filtration. Don’t get me wrong, I am sure they are probably fine for street and track use but dude(!) they are rather porous. At the very least, get the “panty hose“ style sock that are commonly sold for these filters.

We have a thread on that, “Use a good air filter” and a thread on where to find 100% gasoline, both stickied in the All Other Parts subforum.
