Looked and still lost

I am planning on using a sled engine for my arachnid build, I did some looking around and searching and I am still slightly stumped.
I am certain that I will be using the CVT from the sled, but where I am confused is do I need to get the jackshaft from the secondary machined down in order to insert a drive sprocket?

you could look for a torque converter with the appropriate size shaft mount or you could figure out how to attach a secondary snowmobile clutch to the drive shaft. Look at www.theedgeproducts.com may give you some ideas.

well technically wouldn't the snowmobiles primary and secondary clutches more or less be a toque converter on a larger scale?

yes correct the problem is mounting the secondary onto a shaft

lol I guess I should have given more detail, I have all of the original sled to be used as a donor, engine and all etc. lol so I have the original jack shaft, I was curious about mounting my sprocket onto that lol

that is the best way to do it but your final gearing will play alot into torque and speed and how long your clutches will last. room is another issue jacks hafts take alot of room if they are done correctly, shoving something that handles that much power into a small area is potentially dangerous.

There no need for that, the snowmobile engine should already have it's own charging mechanism

im not sure it does seeing as it doesn't have a e-start to begin with so I don't know lol, and a stator puts out AC if I am correct where as an alternator rectifies it into DC, I will also be re-inforcing the frame to handle the winches.
As far as my gear ratio I was thinking about a 6:1 ratio, possibly a 7:1 with the weight of the engine and winches and extra steel involved

I would be shortening the original jack shaft down to save some rooms cost and more then likely have 2 bearing carriers on each end of the shaft(4 in total)

smart move on the double bearings I'm doing the same on my tank build. There should be a charging system on the motor to charge the battery so an alt shouldn't be needed unless your going for constant use winches.

The donor sled didn't come with an electic start so there was no batteries with it or anything at all for that matter lol, just lights which were ran off the stator

Hmmm OK I guess you will need a small alt then maybe something like a honda civic alt or if you can find it something off a small engine. Just add a pulley to run it your gonna have to add a voltage regulator of some sort so you don't over charge the battery.

Find the specs for the chain case off the snowmobile, it will give the gearing. May be a good place to start.

looked up the specs.... kinda shocking, it has a drive gear of 17t standard, and a driven gear of 29t standard leading to a 1.7:1 ratio....

yeah, about gear ratio, I was told to find the factory ratio of my sled and it ended up being a 1.7:1, so would that be a good ratio to start then?
