looking for pics or links of rear dual independent suspension?

Im looking for info on a rear dula independent suspension setup. Im going to be using a 6.5 hp clone and had been interested in a dual trailing arm setup where the chain runs forward to a jack shaft and the jack sproket to the rear wheels. So there would be 1 chain from the jack shaft each side going back to the rear wheel.

My concern is the hub setup on the rear wheels. It would have to be on an axle with sproket on inside and hub wheel on outside. has any one done this in smaller kart proportion?

Here is a trophy kart buggy with heavier duty example setup.

i drew this up for a guy. but if you want you could use stub axles on arms and use motorcycle style wheels. sprockets inboard of course. they have a drum brake setup where the drum is the sprocket if you want independent brakes. i like the halo warthog suspension. the red one basically has J-arms. kinda over built though, imho.

I think my main concern would be, if i were to use bearings such as these.

http://www.mfgsupply.com/m/c/AZ8205.html

What size tubing would i need to make the sleeve in which the bearings would sit in?

For instance, like in this pic where the yellow arrow is pointing. It would also need to be the same material on therear of the arm where the wheels are mounted.

In My shope i have 1.5"x.120 which is to small of an inner dia. and i have 1.75x.120 which is to large of a inner diameter.

Another ?, how is the sproket on the jack shaft held in place? it looks as if the jackshaft axle doesn't have a cut keyway?

the pipe needed for that bearing would be 1 3/8s id. if the sprockets aren't keyed, they could be welded (bad policy) or they could be set screwed (still not the best policy). splined would be best, followed by keyed. you could use a keyed axle for the jackshaft, but you will loose power because of the length.

If you use an engine with a little more power (such as a motorcycle engine) you could run CVs, and trailings arms. Its much better than running all those chains.

The kart isn't going to be anything like the ones in the pics. It'll just be a small kart for the kids but i was just curious on the dual setup as compared to a single swing arm axle.

I.R.S. is more capable off-road. it takes a bit more in engineering and parts, but depending on what you are trying to accomplish definitely worth it. the same as having a separator on your brake lines. linked braking is fine for the family car, but not for hill climbing and extreme stuff. it can also be worse if you think about it. i wish i had greater access to parts and a welder.

Awesome Find AnderKart!!! Thank You so much for the link! I Have a Honda Shadow motor that has been waiting for a mini rail frame and that one is perfect. Aslo gives great perspective of the rear setup. The pics are awesome to research. Thank You.:cheers2:

rgv if those are the bearings that you want to use might I sugest some 1 5/8 OD DOM with a .120 thickness ... with DOM you wont have to worry about the seem going down the inside when you place the bearings in.

T-man Thats what i measured on a hub i bought from MFGsupply. Unfortunatly, my local metal supply only sells 1.5 & 1.75 DOM. I'll have to look into where i can get some locally in Los Angeles. I'd like to try out the rear independent with your A-kart design. Not really worried so much on the folding for storage. I'll keep you posted T-man.

oh ya ...I know what your saying . something along the lines of one small axle for each tire with a long jackshaft up twords the seat area to run the tires. something like that??

Yah TMan, Your setup has the Jack shaft to a rear single axle. I was think of same jack shaft setup but to 2 separate axles in the rear. Would eliminate the fold up option but thats not really needed in my case.

I just called metal supply, They do have 1.625 DOM. Dang $85 per 20ft. Thats sux, but i guess I could use the drop for 4x4 roll cage cross bracing stuff in the future.

Yes a 4 link would be a much simpler design and thanks for the link and sketches. The only problem i have with the 4 link is that you are throwing around the engine along with the axle. Im sure it will work great but i 'd like to keep the engine in a stationary position. I might even try both setups and see which one i like best.
