Locking hubs?

Do they make Locking hubs that would work like older 4x4 trucks?
Meaning, I could reasonably-quickly switch my gokart from a dead axle to a live axle setup?

I know a simple way is to remove the axle key, but without bearings its probably not a good idea...

Wouldn't it be easier to change the hub?
A freewheeling hub isn't too expensive, and you'd only need one.

Yes and No.... my issue is I do a lot of driving on asphalt to get to the area thats offroad...
I would be nice if I could easily change it from one to the other when I get there..

Im envisioning a two part hub, one part connects to the rim and has bearings to freespin. the other keyed hub is on the shaft next to (on the inner side) the freespinning one.
Then you just need a way to slide the inner hub to the outter and lock them..

If only I had my own machine shop...

How much room do you have on your axle?

Enough to mount both of these:?

More than enough boltholes to attach one to the other (while still having a wheel mounted )

Three bolts, once you arrived and your good.
