What I may use.

From Left to right:

1 Transmission off a 1972 Sears LT10/E (E for Electric start)
2 Transmission part way a part
3 Differential out. Was a major pain because of a couple small snap rings were very difficult to pop off...took me about an hour to get it off even with the help of my dad.
4 From left to right 1st gear 2nd gear 3rd gear
5 Inside the transmission. Top gear is hooked up to the 10-12" (did not measure) pulley. This was very difficult to get to. On the axles there were a couple of I guess pins (not sure the actual name) but the slide into the rim of the tires into the groove. With a bit of help of a hammer and a flat crow bar got them off. To split the transmission I had to take a flat head screwdriver and the hammer right at the seems to get it to split. The gaskets were a pain.
6 Various parts and tools to take the thing a part.

Honestly I don't expect to have this thing back together any time soon until I can find a good take down and put it back together...I can take stuff apart but not put it back together without having "spare parts".

The pulley has a bit of a wobble...not sure if its supposed to be like that (doubtful) or if something dropped on it. Its off by 5-15 degrees.

Another thing to not is...water had gotten into the transmission and contaminated the gear lube.

Words of advice,

Not a good idea to do this indoors...the smell of gear lube could be smelled through out the whole house. Don't do this if you have a whinny family members (brother came up to whine about the smell).

My excuse to do this whole thing inside was because its about 14 degrees outside, the garage even though it has a heater is too cold to work out there. How I did it was brought up a table and put a few old t-shirts, a towel and an old bed sheet that already had paint on it. Gear lube did go through all of it (could not open the plugs to drain it) but it wasn't too bad and I was able to clean it up fairly easily.

While I had it fully apart, I could not tell why reverse gear was not working at all, so it was nearly a waste of time to tear into. However with that said I would not have known what was wrong with it had I not taken it apart.

Parts are somewhat still available even though its 40+ years old. So I may end up either without reverse in the custom tractor, buy a go kart differential with reverse...but like I said before I don't know if they'll be strong enough for all the stuff I'm doing...rather not waste the $250 for one if it'll just end up being a paper weight after a few months of hard use.

If there is a 'nexttime' use citronella candles in the work area... no woman complain bout a fresh lemony scent(vs the pugnant putrid smell of gear oil)

I woulda used the tub... just plug up the drain so nothing went down it... after done comet scrub n rinse...

Reverse is overrated anyways!:lolgoku:

Don't have a bath tub...was ripped out for a wheelchair accessible shower. Was going to light a couple but I could not find my zippo or any matches. With the plans I have in store for the tractor reverse is nearly a must..yeah I could motorcycle it and back up with my legs but this is more so for my dad and he being 62...reverse is a must have.

Even if I did have a bath tub...the gear lube would mess up the septic system plus its probably not legal to dump it into the system since the stuff is recycled over either for city water in town or its used as a fertilizer for neighboring farms...gear lube probably isn't the best for crops.

I never did look at the plugs from the inside the case but it was acting as though my cousin who worked on it over 10 years ago stripped out the threads...or its just seized on there for being 42 years old.
