Hey Halfbreeder, have you considered welding in a horizontal brace to tie the upper rear frame rail to the nerf bars to prevent the chance of the lower frame section from flexing and possibly cracking just behind the seat section? I marked where I am talking about in yellow on one of your photos. Just a suggestion due to the added weight and tire size on the back.

:iagree: maybe from the back of the seats to down at an angle to just before the axle. I'm kinda thinkin you're gonna need to brace it up a bit. Triangles are your friend when adding bracing. .... :idea2:

Yep... 'that' was the "original" plan. Was actually gonna keep the fender framework off the Carter rear, and fuse it to 'where' you are talking bout(see last attachment thread #3). I ended up cutting the fenders off and ditching the plan of 'upper' support, n concentrated on a 'more' sound base fusion. I 'mentally' came up w/ the reason of NOT supporting the upper part, due to all 'original' weight support is remaining, and 'any', added, weight will "still" be supported on the 'original' main axle, so 'structurally' nothing is being changed. Yes I lengthened front to rear axle distance but only by 3" and actually the added 3" has a support plate that is 3" wide holding the upper bars of the Carter rear, so the added length isnt effecting anything 'laterally'.

What Im doing is the equivalent of taking the motor off, and having someone standing on the axle and kicking off for forward momentum, like one does w/ a scooter.

Hope this clears up my reasoning for no upper support. Thanks for the interest!

Im 'hoping' I wont have to brace it off, Im 'pretty' good at judging things, by covering EVERY avenue of probability, from gravity to Newton's 3rd law(hence why it takes me almost a week to propel myself into something. Some call it procrastination... I call it 'over-thinking' an issue, when one sits n 'stares' at an object w/out doing anything to it for 5-7 days... but 'if' the time comes where I notice flexing or welds breaking, it's no 'thing', for me, to slide the notch of experience up, and add the needed supports. Im trying to cut down on weight added n keep the bare minimum w/out over-killing the fusion.

FUSED!!!

Tomorrow grinding, ruff painting. I was approached w/ the idea of Rhino-lining instead of painting, it's black, textured to coverup over-grinds/welds, tuff(wouldnt have to worry bout paint mishaps like, lets just say for example... your brake foot suddenly is NOT 'in' the kart, and your headed for a curb :mad2: ... the paint job 'wouldnt' be the "FIRST" thing youd look at as you got off your kart...:lolgoku:) any comments/recommendations on that?

Axle point moved back 3" and up 1"...

Rear fused...vid

Ive been asked on a few occasions what kinda 'shop' is it that I work on my kart? Alotta folk wanna know, it seems...
It's your avg. garage w/ EVERY tool that you can think of to work on EVERY part of any car... from body to machine work to fabrication. They work on your daily drivers to your 6-8 second dragsters to your antiques. Ive NEVER heard of them 'not' having the tool to do a job... and even 'if' that should occur... they'd just fabricate one....
I dont work there(not on payroll), but Ive been known to turn a wrench or plane a head or 2, in the 20 years Ive hung out there... used to "date" the bosses daughter(sorta)...

Attached are a few of the cars they are currently, either restoring/working on/upgrading...(the 'Willy' is bosses new hobby car-t...:auto:)

Clutch-12T
J/S in -14T
J/S out 12T
Axle 60T=

29.38MPH@3600RPM with 16"tires. Overall reduction= 5.83:1

That's a might high, and you're risking the clutch. Go bigger on the J/S in sprocket (the 14T and you'll drop speed but bring the ratio to something a bit safer.

Im suppose to be getting a 15T today(6.25:1 ratio at around 27 mph), my other tire, n axle bearings... so should be running by this afternoon/evening...:auto::popcorn:

Uuhhhhh , you using scrub brakes? How well do they work with them big ol tires?

Ill have to let you know tomorrow...

When I got the green frame it 'had' (old) band brakes on it already and that frame was HEAVY! They were the 5" and Im running the 4"... but my Lo-T isnt as heavy all put together as the green one was stripped... so... Im 'hoping' (not expecting) theyll do the job... hate to think that Id be cutting and framing out a section of 'incased axle' just for disks...

Also thinking ... maybe another on the 'other' side of the axle?

Ill have to look/test what Ive got now... let yall know when I find out.

Just an idea:idea2: ...... on a kart i had with scrubbies, Ipicked up some tire chunk from big rig on side of the hhighwayone day. Cut out some rectangles and bolted them to the pads, 2 carriage bolts along bottom edge and some HEAVY duty glue the the rest to keeo it from "flopping" when not in use. The tire adds a TREMENDOUS amount of braking power...... :cheers2:

lol.... i got scrub and band mixed up....(aint slept in bout 36hrs).... yea kept the scrubs(mainly cause everything still lined up). gonna have to widen and lengthen em some... good GOD they make a ruckus on these monster tread!!!! The top is just barely not catching between the tread(danger) so giving em more width n hight should make em more 'user-friendly'... hehe

WoW, yep, definitelyneed to make them taller so you dont suck em down between tire n brake bar.... NOT good.... width may not be necessary.

was thinking of somehow putting pieces of regular tires, as pads, for them(after giving em more hight)... good or bad idea?
