Hi guys, first post, please be gentle!

I have done a search of the forum but turned up with nothing, does anyone know if a leaf blower engine would be any good for my go kart project which I am about to start? I don't know specs of the blower, have one had a glimpse of it but i know its only a hand held (not back pack) and that it isn't a top-of-the-range one.

any help much appreciated!

Hi, thanks for the reply!

i did really mean just as an engine rather than actually using it to blow air and yes i realised i couldnt use it after, thanks!

so if it was a smallish, metal framed kart then id it likely to be powerful enough?

@r97 thats a moped/scooter engine, i got one similar. see the gear reduction on it.

tht looks like a cool build. as for a back pack blower engine what is the size of the motor? for example 33cc, 20cc, 47cc, so on. its a 2 stroke. you will need most likely a chainsaw or weedwacker clutch. another thing, dont take all the plastic covers off the motor, unless you are going to use some sort of a radiator or fan to cool it. i did that once to a weedwacker project and upon running the thing for some time without the covors it simply overheated. the weedwacker clutch bells are usually the best because a razor dirt rocket drive sprocket will fit on them, because the end is square.

i could go on and on...

Most hand held leaf blowers have the pullstart on the sameside of the crankshaft. Most of them if not all come without a clutch as well. If you could find a centrifugal clutch that would fit it, it could work. A chainsaw engine would be alot better to use as mentioned before. The pullstart is usually on one side of the engine, and the out put crank shaft is on the opposite side. most of them are clutched as well.
