So for a university project we have to create a electric go-kart that can be built by high-schoolers for a high school race. After doing research we are kind of split on AC or DC for the motor. Would a AC motor be too complicated for a high school team to put together, or would it's advantages overcome that aspect. Also we are using Lead-Acid batteries which sound like they last longer on AC.

U will lose power though the inverter
it's not necessary to spend thousands of dollars, cheaper DC/AC transducers are availale, and AC motors can be pretty cheap (washing machines, power tools etc.pp.)
