ok, I have another question. I'm bummed if I have to ditch the straight-axle Idea... mainly because that was what i've been doing LOTS of research on and have figured out the answer to many concerns. (example: bump-steer, anti-squat, etc.)

Is there a good place w/ info on Trailing Arm set ups/geometry ?
most of the set-ups I've seen are for the rear... mine will need to have trailing arms up front as well if I go this route.

any info helps.
thanks.

So i asked the question on MowBetter forum. (racing mowers)
I first asked it in a way that didn't let them know this wasn't for a non-mower.

anyhow, the one dude that actually answered my question said the stock grease will keep you from spinning the thing by hand, but after cleaning all of it out and with a low weight gear oil it should spin by hand...but he also said maybe not in higher gears.

I then made the mistake of saying it was for a pedal powered application. Doh!
no one responded to the topic after that.

My original plan was to go w/ one (maybe two) Nuvinci CVT bike hubs... they are spendy but apparently bulletproof in pedal applications (they even claim you can run 20hp or less electric motors through them!)

maybe some of you karters should check into one... an electric cart w/ a cvt tranny would be pretty sweet. they even sell a kit that does the shifting for you.

cvt would be nice i am sure

i have a few trans axles here and i can spin them over by hand, but there is a pretty good gearing drop in them

thanks turtle... i'd really love to find someone w/ a 700 series.
maybe i can find a cheap one just to purchase and test the friction.

Ok, I've got a new question:
I think you are all right about the 700 being a bit much and a shifting bike hub (geared hub) would make for a better transmission.

I'm now on the search for a REVERSE. I'm wondering if there is any in-line forward (1:1) Reverse (1:1?) thing out there?

seems like there should be, but I keep finding ones that are pulley and worm drive which will no work.

anyone here know of a simple forward/reverse gear box that isn't complete overkill for a pedal kart?

thanks.
