So I got this 6.5HP Briggs Intek self Propelled Lawn mower.
It was a $350.00 Dollar Mower. I got it 16 Yrs ago and 14 Yrs ago I got married and moved to my Wifes 2 acre Property. And we just use a lawn Tractor.
However I used this one to get the smaller areas till one day (13yrs ago)
It started Running real bad and sounded like a Harley.
Yes. I now know it was just the Valves.
Anyway I took it to a lawn mower Shop and paid them to tune it up.
When I got it back it worked 1 time and then started the exact same crap running poorly.
Now when I picked it up from the Shop I did not use it that week, then when I did the next week it was a Sunday. I planned to take it back to the repair Shop then a couple weeks became a few and I figured they would not believe me, that it never worked blah blah blah.
I put it in the Shed and there it sat for 10 Yrs.
Today I decided to give it a look. Cause I want to sell the old thing.
It was very hard to pull, and I figured the valves needed adjusted.
I first checked the plug and while it was out I pulled the engine a couple times to make sure it was free. It spun freely.
Then I put the plug in and it still spun freely. WTF?
I pulled the valve cover and the keeper nut on the rocker arm was off.
The other valve had a lock nut (a second nut), There was only 1 nut on this one that fell off.
This tells me the shop did not put the lock nut on after adjusting the valves.

I believe the push rods are now off the cam and I need to open up the engine to fix the problem.

On a vertical shaft lawn mover The "Side Cover" is a bottom Cover.
So remove the blade and the engine,
Take the whole darn Mower apart and do a 5 minute fix internally.

What a pain in the Rear cause some Douchy mechanic left off a lock nut!

and all I wanted to do was sell an old mower for 50 bucks!

This isn't true for all of them, but every mechanic I've been to (minus one) have been rubbish at fixing things, and proud of it to!
.
I brought a four wheeler to our mechanic a couple years ago; after calling and asking each month, I call for the 4th month. I get his assistiant on the phone, he transfers me to his boss because he hasn't heard anything about a quad in the shop.. His boss comes on sounding busy and important, and says, "Ohhh, yeah the Kawi you brought in? Yeah, it's in the scrap pile in the back because I couldn't get to it."

Thing that bugs me the most is it is so much labor to fix what was a simple problem.
And then... I just want to sell this used nice Lawn mower.
Have Y'all seen used mowers on Craigs List? Flooded with 20 dollar models.
So really just not worth it.
And this is actually a nice Mower! Shameful a labor only repair makes this thing useless!

if i have the time i fix things myself. it's a valuable skill.

I went through like 7 shops in town before i found a shop where the guys running the place owned the place and took pride in their work. They are amazing guys. Only mechanics i've ever been able to tell them i cant pay today and they say okay just give us what you can.....never anywhere else.

oh yah lawnmowers??? a dime a dozen on craigslist. Where im at the yearly trash clean up, you see lawn mowers all over the place. Saw two last week almost grabbed them. but i have 4 now....so. i need to use up what i have before getting more. and the one i saw oh man it looked really nice. probably 600 new. untill i come up with something good to build with the motors il leave them if i see em... so tempting to grab them though. take them home. they need a good home.

Partially why my ex became one.
At one point we had like four or five cats, and close to 30 kittens.

IN THE HOUSE!

Everything I owned inside was ruined.

Don't even get me started.:censored::mad2:
