Thanks again guys for all the info. I think the HD clutch will probably be the best bet. I'm just a bit concerned about the bushing instead of needle bearings. This kart will get a workout, running for hours and seeing some heavy riders (myself excluded).

Where can I get stainless shim stock? Is it cylindrical, or do I have to form it to the shaft dia? I'm sure between you and Jr. Dragster Tyler I'll be able to find a writeup on cutting a keyway.

Was really hoping the flywheel shroud was metal. I was hoping to chrome it. If you think about it, let me know if the snowblower motors have metal shrouds.

Couldn't find an HL334B for sale (used or rebuilt) anywhere. Is there a Tillotson resource I can use to lookup the model #'s? I see several HL carbs for sale, but their model #'s range from the 100's to the 400's.

The crank for the DuraForce horiz. shaft snowblower engine is $91. Don't see dimensions, though. Is it a 3/4" or 1" shaft? Briggs part #801220

If properly maintained will last a long time. The NORAM clutch I use was/is designed for rental karts. They can take a beating.

Get it here: MSC . Cut it to size and form it.

No magic here. Just draw a straight line with a marker and cut away with a Dremel reinforced cut off wheel. Chainsaw files and abrasive stones help to finish it off. Be prepared for hours of tedious work.

Get them installed and running first...THEN consider bells and whistles. You have a lot of work ahead of you. Any chrome should be left until the end of project.
The snow engines have metal shrouds. Don't know if they will fit. They are slightly different in that they have a provision for electric start.

Check these out (new): Comet Kart Sales, EC Carburetors.

Crankshafts are NOT interchangeable. Snow engines are really Toro/Briggs & Stratton R*Tek's and are piston ported.

I must warn you...I am the only one (as far as I know) that has successfully completed running karts (and mini bike) using most Lawn-Boy engines. Took me 4 years (and mucho dinero) to get this far and is still a work in process.
For all I know, these engines could detonate tomorrow given normal running RPM for the DuraForce is 3k. I have run them at over 6k.
Please consider this endeavor experimental.

Thanks for the concern Russ. I appreciate it. This is a project that can be as hard or as easy as I make it. I'm by no means striving for perfection...just trying it out. If it doesn't work...I will keep tweaking. That's the fun of it!! I'll tell you one thing though, It WILL be running when the snow thaws.

The reason I'm concerned about the shrouds now is because I need the motors to sit as low as possible in the frame. If I mock up the mounts with shrouds different from what'll be used, I could have interference issues. They won't be chromed (or painted or whatever) until the end.

Sorry for hijacking the thread (again). Watch my project buildup thread for updates. Thanks again guys!!

By the looks of it, i agree with the 50+ notion. Looks like it really gets up and goes. Find anything else on the 'Engine Synching' theory?

Just a lot of guesses with no "solid" explanation.
I posted the question on a physics forum and got no response.
Obviously has something to do with combustion pulses and when the clutches lock-up. I wonder if twin 4 cycle engines respond the same way.

When we set up twin engines on the Magnum karts their governors seem to keep them in sync with very little effort. From two 5hp engines to two 11hp engines it appeared to act no differently than setting up a Magnum kart with dual west bend 820's. Even one of those karts with dual 5's is a fun ride.

Max RPM so far is 6314. Higher RPM are realized at cooler outdoor temps.
Am going to play with intake length. Carbs were originally bolted directly to reed plate, then I increased it (via aluminum spacer) and definitely helped. Will increase another half inch. I have to be careful as one of my other engines suffered from carburetor icing. Same thing that brings down airplanes. Have to find a happy medium.

6300...nice. Did you gain midrange with the spacer? Sounds snappier now off idle.
