Looking to see if anyone can give me some pointers or ideas for a budget setup for axles on my larger buggy project. 4cyl cbr600f4I engine I have sprockets and chain just looking into axles currently. Looking towards independant suspension so possibly cv or uni joint axles. Was told somewhere try from and old vw bug but idk how id set that up. Eventually ill move to. Better parts when I can afford it.

Cbr 600? You may want to find atv parts to go with that.

CBR engines rev up to the 14,000+ range, ATV parts would hold up to torque real well but the pure speed of the engine will wear that thing out.

I was looking at some VW rear ends for my 600cc sprint car for a while but since mine's not going offroad, I didn't need it. I would go with the VW parts. I found a thread somewhere about a guy who had the trans axles seperate and made an adapter for them to hook up to a hub that housed a sprocket and a rotor. This might be the best option for you. I can't remember what thread it was now though. All you need to do is mount the A arms and the end onto the frame somewhere and the other end will go to your hubs and wheels. Another option I was looking into was the rear off of a Subaru Justy.

Have a look at RockAuto.com . Then, look at the Geo Metro as a possible donor. The left CV half shaft looks about perfect for a 4' wide vehicle. Did I mention the price is $32 complete per side. I just bought 2 myself to replace a U-joint axle I have on a kart.

The Metro was rated for 70HP which is significantly more than what most of us will ever put on a kart.

Sounds like a good idea russ that. Could very well be a good option. My engine is rated for 110+ hp but less torque so I think I beat that 70hp on. A kart benchmark lol but the torque isn't as much as a car engine due to. Shorter stroke ect. A. Metro axle would be just fine I think

Yeah lol .....I mean I could gain quite a few extra lbs to equal it out lol. I get bored I build things and I get bored with normal lol. I think the only thing I've worked on lately that hasn't made someone wet their pants or move faster than a fat kid for the store when twinkies came back was a lawn tractor given to me for free I rebuilt.

Trust me russ I have a weird way of saying stuff but I def agree with you thnx that's a heck of a lot better than hemorrhaging money I don't have for other axles. Plus I know these will last a bit better and I can work with em a lot better too.
