Having wanted a shifter kart as long as I can remember, I finally decided to go ahead and build one. Picked up an old racing chassis off Craigslist, and also a Kx500 2 stroke dirt bike to use the engine out of
woulda been happy with a 125 or 250 but got a screaming deal on a 500 so decided it could be fun having 60hp in a 200lb kart. Chopped a part of the frame off the 500 with the motor mounts and welded it right on to the side of the kart. Then threw a support bar in there, and decided that thing isn't going anywhere! Next was the radiator, a welded a mount on to the opposite side and bolted it on. Last thing I did, and undoubtedly the most time consuming was boring out a crankshaft sprocket to fit the 1 1/4" axle. But 3 hours on the lather later and it slid on. Just gotta drill some holes through it to mount it to the hub.
That was one weekends worth of work, hopefully this Friday we'll link the shifter up and have a quick kart ready to go!
I'll upload some pics ASAP!
