hi everyone, i am building a new go kart soon and pretty much know how im going to do it as i have already built an off-road buggy with a cb500 engine but for this new one im going to use a kx250 engine but i've been racking my brains trying to think of a way to start it as a kick start would be a bit awkward so im wondering if any of you guys have any good ideas i could use.

this was my first build if anyones intrested by the way

this is just speculation but...

the cb500 had electric start?

and you have a kx250 engine to use already correct?

or...... put a sprocket on the splined kickstart shaft and add a small chain and electric motor. you would have to be very careful though make sure you have a lock on the chain to stop it.
I remember my ktm400 each kick was 4 engine rotations. count how many each kick is. and make sure the motor doesnt spin past that. internal mechanisms should return it to start position every time.

it is doable but it wont be setup like a factory starter. only short bursts. it should start first try but if it doesnt you cant just keep it cranking.

you could also have a series of rods. a lever on engine the oem kick start would prob work. and have a few pulleys. with a steel wire attached to a lever that folds out by the seat. or farther by your legs. the motion of kicking or pushing with your arm would kick it over. rods could also be used but would take more work.

think of it as the shifter on a shifter cart.

i did an off road kart with a cr 80 just for fun and i left the kick start on it. you just had to get off and kick it when you wated to start it. i would post pics but i sold it a few weeks ago to get rid of some stuff in my shop

you could put it in the highest gear, hold the clutch, and have someone push you then release the clutch and it starts.

aka bump start

yeah the cb500 has an electric start and i do have a kx250 engine ready to use, it's still in the bike right now but im gona take it out soon.
thats a good idea with the electric motor to crank it i will look in to that one, and i will look up the shifter karts aswell as i've never seen or used one. if all else fails though i will just use the other kart to push it and bump it. im trying to keep it as simple as possible. thanks for the reply's and suggestion's though people. i will post a vid of it on here when it's done should be starting it in a month or so.
