Broken axle, so I decided to start a thread about the rebuild.

I ordered all of the new parts, they should all be here within the next week. I ordered a 1" billet axle, new wheel hubs, rear wheels, sprocket hub, brake disk/hub, comet mechanical caliper, caliper bracket. I had to order all of this stuff because I couldn't find a stock replacement axle. It was splined for the stock wheel hubs, sprocket hub, drum brake.
So I will document what I am doing so others might get good information from my experience.

Sure. Total cost (including some things I didn't earlier mention like 4 new heavy duty hydraulic shocks and some parts for my sons mini bike build) was right at 596.00. Got everything I needed from mfgsupply.com they have an excellent parts bin, and if you have a little imagination, you can build anything you want from there. They offer genuine comet parts and have pretty competitive prices, and the customer service is top notch.

I am sure there will be some people chime in saying I spent way too much, I could have just bought a new gokart with all I have invested in this one etc. Well, no I couldnt. This one is going to not only be fast and reliable, but one of a kind when finished. ;)

U may want to extend the frame out a bit as to put bearings out closer to the axle

Otherwise u will break anoughter axle

I think this one broke for three reasons. I solid mounted the rear end, I was full throttle and hit a washed out ditch, and there was an air bubble in the casting at the point of the break. I will take a pic and post it up when I go outside.

There are small cracks in the outer diameter extending inward, and you can see the air bubble that was in the steel. The new a axle is a much better piece.

Update:

Machining axle bushings/shims for the new piece. The cast axle was 1 3/32 inch and the new axle is 1 inch. I just turned the bearing surface of the old axle down as a shim for the new axle to work with the original bearings.
