Killed the dingo

Well was testing the motor on the kart today and was going around a corner at 50 tie rod bolt broke or came undone or something and cost control. Jumped the curb hit a tree than a mailbox. All with the rea right wheel. Than turned sideways and rolled it.

Got home found out I bent the frame and of corse the axle. Really sucks cause I had 1/8 mile drags to go to next weekend. Anyone got tips on how to restraighten the frame and motor mount plate

ya on the locktite. not sure how it backed out was a lock nut. but it was ouch, my leg is wat caved in the steering.

and with the 1" pipe is that using it to bend the frame or cut and section out bent parts

To rebend the frame. Make one of these. Do you weld?

Leverage and or hydraulics.
If you have a floor jack you can chain the base of the jack to 1 frame piece and pump the jack to bend back another piece. (does that make sense?)

And a Big Fuggin Hammer.

Will be hard to get it perfect just takes time and a bend here a tweak there.

Glad you are ok, sounds like a wild Ride at 50MPH!

Alright. Ya it was a wild ride. But I was only about 3/4 throttle. In the 1/8 I was topping at 54 prettty much every time. Top speed in 1/4 was 62 and that is as much as I went. It. needs a disk brake. The band brake failed as well when the tie rod failed. Overheated and shattered the friction material. But hopefully I can get in a new axle and parts by Thursday. Really want to make it to the drags.

After it's straight(er). Weld some 3/4" angle iron to it to restrengthen it.

Weld it so the v is hidden on the bottom and stronger.

Pry and heat as needed. I'd probably take off the axle and spindles and work with it until all four corners sat good on a level floor.

Glad you weren't badly hurt, that could've gotten bad.

there was just some dingos or single seat Yerf dogs on offer up for $120... someone snagged them up though. I was going to try to pick them up Tuesday but the guy wanted to sell them now.

^^ Excellent advice--use a "known-good" concrete floor or whichever to check for trueness.

On a lot of vehicles with heavy vibration issues, it was common knowledge to make the rounds with a wrench to check for tightness in the fasteners. Loctite is good but is no guarantee.

This sad situation is reminding me to re-think the use of locking wire. Wire and one of those twisting pliers. HF has both.

No Offense. and I sometimes Forget myself.
But this is a good lesson for all of us. Like Hellion said.
We should all do a quick "Nut and Bolt" tightness check.
Very Regularly especially those if us with Kids Karting.

yup. you win some and you loose some. this time i just lost, well so did the mailbox but you get my drift. i was really lucky because i wasn't wearing my helmet like i normally do on this kart. ill look for another frame to move all the goodies to late right now gonna try and re-straighten get some new parts on her and see if she'll drive strait again.

just hurts the pride to loose something you've put so much work into iver 1 stupid bolt.

oh ya haha it will out tun my vw in the 1/8 mile. given my bug has a 56hp motor in a one ton vehicle.

sad part is i never found out the top speed haha, just max stopping speed

Dude, how long was that bolt working its way loose? This reminds me of the time I saw a friend pop a wheelie and his front wheel fell off!
Maybe that was me. I can't remember.
