Hey guys, I’m new into karting with my five-year-old son. I bought him a birel art with a gx35 I think the wrong sprocket and chain is on. It’s rubbing and making a loud pitch noise as it’s rubbing on the front sprocket. Does anybody know which model sprocket and chain size I would need for this if anybody can help thank you. I think my track was saying 9/72 or a 10/80 ? Any brands that I should look into that’s specific for that kart.

It's the only Birel in the lineup, I think, that has the HONDA GX35 4-Stroke engine option. Is your kart new or used? If used, no telling what the issue may be or if it was modified by the previous owner.
Specific info or a service manual on these karts seems really scarce.

Good morning, yes that’s the model. I bought it used. It just looks like the front sprocket and the rear sprocket don’t line up. The teeth don’t seem to add up. That’s why I think it’s wrong. Also I'm thinking that’s why the chain skips so I feel like the sprockets are wrong and just the wrong chain on it. It doesn’t lock into the front sprocket nicely it tends to rub instead of being nice and snug on the teeth

Sounds like your axle sprocket might just be out of alignment with the engine sprocket.
You could check for this situation (with the chain removed) by placing a straight-edge (carpenter square, etcetera) along the side of the axle sprocket and see how it lines up with the engine sprocket. If it's out of alignment, you might just need to loosen the set screws of the rear sprocket hub so you can perfectly align it.
Another (out of alignment) possibility might be that the engine isn't bolted in perfectly straight to it's motor mount.
You could also check to make sure all of the rear axle hardware is tight so there's no chance of the axle shifting to the right or left causing the 2 sprockets to become out of alignment.
I would guess your Sprockets are the #219 chain pitch size.
Your Racekart track should have a Tech Inspector, these guys are typically very knowledgeable/helpful and would be a really good person to contact regarding where to purchase parts such as a new chain & sprockets. You might even discover that he will offer to take a look at your kart and help diagnose and/or repair the problem for free.

Hey see attached photos see if that helps. I had a box that the guy gave me it looks like the gold rear sprocket is the original one from the kart. I might have to just put that back on it. It should work.

A loud high pitched noise or low pitch, like a groaning? Are you sure it's the chain? It could be the axle bearings or it could even be the brake caliper dragging on the brake disc.
Perhaps the rear sprocket (the big one) is misaligned with the small sprocket on the engine. The alignment can be eyeballed and adjusted. Looks like you need to remove the oil spray guard from over the chain, use your Eyeball Mark I and/or a straight edge to determine whether the two sprockets are aligned with each other or not. If not, loosen or remove the nut and bolt on the rear sprocket and move the sprocket laterally along the axle until they line up, then tighten the nut and bolt.
The chain looks like it has the proper slack in it.
Hey guys thanks for the feed back. I think I’m explaining it wrong. So I took the chain completely off and I just put it on the sprocket and move it back-and-forth with my hand. It seems like the link is a little longer than it should be if that makes sense so as I rotate it, it doesn’t have a comfortable grip sitting in the front sprocket as the front sprocket turns the chain slips into the teeth and make a noise and it slips slightly. There was an old chain that it came with, and it’s very comfortable on the small sprocket, but not the big sprocket so I think the teeth are different from the front to the rear. I went on the manufacturers website and ordered an identical chain and sprocket that’s made for that kart so hopefully that works. Am I able to attach videos on here ?
