I have a twister Hammerhead 250. The engine blew up on it..

I also have a KX125 engine i was going to make into a shifter cart.

I NOW want to put that engine on the hammerhead, but how am I going to start it? Are there electric starter kits for this motor?

The engine on the hammerhead is in the middle of everything. Yes I'm going to have to do a BUNCH of fabrication.. But just dont know how i'm going to make the kick start work.

Since you have to do some custom fabrication, mount the engine so that the kickstart can still be accessed. Ive seen it on karts before. Some pictures of the kart, mainly where the engine will be mounted and a picture of the new engine would help.

idk how the kick starter works.. lol.. but would it work to make a little flywheel and hook a starter up to it to spin the kick shaft?

Pop it in second, pull in the clutch and con a friend into pushing it.

LOL.. I have a downhill section out of my garage, i usually popstart my dirtbike off that .. This may work.. just would suck if i stalled it on a trail or something...

Maybe you could build a kick start extension shaft (supported with brackets w/bearings) to extend it out as far as necessary.

May be an option. Guess I would have to get the carb tuned good so it would idle long enough for me to jump in.. LOL.

Even then you'd still probably need to be manning the throttle while kick starting to get it running. I was just thinking once you had the kickstart shaft extended, you could install a gear/chain on it to run to a front mounted jack shaft with your kick start lever positioned where you could kick start right from your drivers seat... (You could install wheel-type chain guides to rout the chain up/down as needed for clearance issues, and then cover the chain with a shroud if desired)

Sounds a bit overkill, but maybe very plausible.

My friend just mentioned maybe putting a rip cord on the kick start and a pulley to bring it forward. Place the handle right next to the seat.

Yeah I hear ya, but it'd be awsome to start it right from the drivers seat. (you'd probably only need one length of chain, not a full loop...)

I like your friends idea but think my plan would be more realistic to build. I've also got a feeling hand-pull starting that engine would take some serious strength.

OK... Going to work on this today.. I know I have to order a gear so it wont be driving for a while...

Looks like a nice day outside... LOL

Oh yeah i'll start a project log. My roll cage was rolled once so I'm going to build a new one, and make it a 1 seater instead of 2, and maybe change the front suspension, so it has more travel.

(i have sparco 6pts and sonme NICE vinyl race buckets, from my old subaru)

+1

However I am a lumberjack of a man ;) I can kick it over with my hand... LOL

I dont doubt ya at all man.

I used to ride Harley's with a big old dude that could sit on his Panheads seat, lean over and kick start his 1200cc engine using his right hand. He discovered he could pull this feat off after a bike wreck where he'd broke both his legs. After he got the casts off he'd still do this every once in awhile just pretty much to show off. It was a real crowd pleaser as everyone was out firing up their bikes at bar closing time... ;)
