keyway set screw

i am drilling and tapping a sprocket that came with no set screws.i have noticed some sprockets have one in the keyway is that a good idea.

I'll second that. If the keyway is closed on both ends and the key has nowhere to go, then you don't need to. However, most of the time the keyway is long enough that they key could walk out. This, you do not want!

My angle iron pipe axle doesn't have a keyway, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! I'm going to go to homedepot now and pick up some more 2x4s [they throw the scraps away in the dumpster behind the store! FREE!] some elmers paste glue and a few tac nails, and you've got a solid board!

back on track! OP; how are you tapping the threads?

it is a 60 tooth sprocket,so i set it in my drill press with a drill vice and used a bit extension to drill it out.a normal t handle was long enough to tap it.say that real fast and it sounds easy.
