Actually, I totally forgot about it! dang! over the Christmas break I got caught up in so much stuff that it just flew out of my mind.
I'm going to try and clean the carburetor tomorrow and I haven't checked if all the stuff in this thread has been lost so I might need you to refresh my memory. If it has been deleted I will post pictures of how far I am into breaking it down. I got into the float bowl and its pretty clean inside so there must be a clog somewhere? I guess we will figure it out tomorrow. ( that is, if you help me... :surrender: )

Do not give up. That bike will run and be loads of fun for you.

You need to POR15 that tanks though.

Have you got the bowl off the carb yet? What did it look like?

OHMYGOSH! Sorry it's been along time sense I have been on my computer. I started my metals class in school and its pretty awesome. Yesterday I just cut this out on our plasma cam. Then I sand blasted it and rattle canned it. I made it for my dads birthday. Tomorrow I'm going to take pictures of what I got disassembled on the carb and hopefully you can walk me thru on cleaning it. I decided I'm going to make a gas tank. I'm not sure if i want to round the metal out and weld it or use some thick pipe we make and weld two ends ( I actually haven't learned how to weld yet... lol I got the concept on oxyacetylene welding tho). i was looking at that forum that got started on gas tanks and im just wondering, what would i use as a petcock? could i just buy that 15 dollar one that came from my original gas tank that i found on eBay? or is there a way to make a simple easy one? I know the gas tank isn't going to look good but why does that matter? haha. its going to be my Frankenstein bike. what kind of inside could i do? im guessing por15 would work?

OK so this is how far i have gotten into taking the carb apart. i think that i found the clog ( i circled it in red) its right where the gas line hooks up. so how would i clean it? with the lemon boil thing? or is there any way else?

I just cleaned my carb today on my 400. All i did was take the float and the needle valve out. Blew compressed air down all the galleries. Now the old 2 stroke running fine. Imo thats all I would do.

If it's really gunked up, a can of carb clean with the little straw on the end will eat it right out. Be sure to watch your eyes.

You can see the needle valve in this picture. It stops the fuel entering the bowl when the float applies pressure to it.

Normally, if you have compressed air available blow it up there and it *should blow though where you circled it red, if you dont have a fuel filter this commonly gets blocked. Just make sure you loss it. ;)

I'm at my grandfathers right now and was trying to unclog it and nothing worked. i havnt removed the float valve and would apreaciate it if you could be more specific on where it is.... because im really confused... :roflol:

Yeah you already removed it, your needle valve is laying on the towel right next to
your float and float hinge pin here in this pic. Its that little sharp pointed doo-hicky :thumbsup:

Do you have any guitar strings? They work good for the jets and channels. Watch a bunch of you tube vids on cleaning carbs. Thats the best way for you to learn right now.

You tank was one the most rust I ever seen in a tank. All that rust crud is jamed in the passage way you have in red. In the last pic is what you have clogged in your carb. I would clean this one good.

I would poke with strings and boil all the metal parts in Lemon juice. You need to take the brass bolts/jets out. (idle jet is very small and needs small strings to poke them out. Make sure you can see daylight thru them. Also the screw and springs on the sides. Keep them apart and do not mix up the springs. Before you take them out count and remember how many turns out they are. So screw them in all the way and count how many turns.

You can do it. Just a little bit more

Also about your gas tank? Why not just use the tank you have now. Cut it open atr the seems. Clean it real good and weld it back at school. Could be a cool little project.
