Update(s): The first ATV has been running ok all summer, with an occasional carb/fuel-related issue that I'm pretty sure is due to the carb, either the 'choke' or the idle mix screw wierdness.

I recently tackled the other ATV:
* replaced the brake-light / safety switch,
* gutted the key lock (no keys),
* general cleanup and checkover, straightening the wiring layout,
* adjusted the brakes
* installed new battery,
* rebuilt the seat with plywood and vinyl over the original foam, and then
* replaced the carb with a $30 ebay special,

Put gas in, watched the fuel filter fill up, then hit the starter button - it fired right off within a half-second! :wai:

It starts and drives like a champ, better and smoother than the other machine. I have no idea how fast it it, but it'll definitely go faster than I care to here in Camp around the oak trees.

I'm thinking the old carbs are worn and dirty to the point that even boiling lemon juice wouldn't bring them back to "like new". Probably order another carb, it'll be a birthday present to my buddy the Scout Camp Manager for his machine.

Altogether I think I've spent a total of $100-$125 for both machines, one of which is now mine.

Oh, and yesterday Bruce was riding the "Texas Terror" (8hp modded yardkart), and of course we had to race across the soccer field. The AVT has slightly better takeoff and top speed with its 12hp and TQ, but the Kart wasn't far behind. Lots of fun!
