I recently repowered this cart (6.5 Predator) and have moved onto some of the chassis issues. This was a 2 seat cart that prev owner moved the pedals and steering post to a single centered position. The pedal setup isnt the best either, but just working on the chassis for now.

Rear tires are 18x9x8, fronts are 15x5x6, and the kart came with an extra set of rear turf tires in 20x10x8's. Front tires are shot, 1 front wheel is bent pretty good, along with the spindles and C brackets. Needs new tie rods, ends, etc.

Basically I need a new front end for it. Given the current configuration and need for new front tires, can I get some recommendations on setup? Should I just replace the C's and spindles similar to whats on it now or should I get a little deeper on improving the karts driveability? Appreciate your suggestions.

Can't tell how the spindle is bent, but if it's bent, just buy new ones. The C can be repaired, by the looks of it. And I'd try to brace it a little, from the top, to the chassis. Those are decent karts with pretty good handling. If you go stock, it should serve you well....

Yeah, obviously, the front has hit something...

As Jim said, the C bracket can be repaired however, it will never be as strong as it was originally, as long as the holes are in the correct position, it should be ok...

How bad is the wheel? Can you post pics? The tyres look ok to me :huh:

As is the case with most karts, the steering has no ackermann built in to the design, we can show you a simple way to rectify that...

That's pretty weird actually.....It's not often you see a spindle bent down!!!!!!!

Yes....you can improve on what's there....Check out 'Castor, camber, and Ackerman' using the search feature here.....

Pic of the tire issue. Wheel is out of true by appx 1/4", and it has visible signs of trauma. Spindles are worn and some have slop where the bolt goes thru it.

Just to clarify: I understand that there are problems with what you have....and it's pretty obvious to see.....

As stated previously, a simple restoration back to original will give you a decent result......I merely pointed out that there is room for improvement....(but isn't that true of everything? )

Soooooooo.......you really can't go wrong either way....:popcorn:

We called that stuff Milwaukee's Beast. They did have awesome man-card commercials though.

My reply sounded a little dry/surly, sorry it wasnt mean't to be. Just threw a pic up to save myself typing 1000 words and to help out the original post.

I appreciate the help. I read up on Ackerman. Many improvements are possible. Lets talk wheels, as the current ones are 6" and use 5/8" flanged bearings in the wheels. Are these adequate or is there a better set-up? I understand there are no absolutes just trying to get to a baseline without going backwards first.

6" wheels with flanged bearing sounds good. Out of curiosity, is there a tube between the bearings, in the front wheels? Or is there a step in the id that they sit against....?

Great questions. First thing I noticed when I pulled the wheel off and the flanged bearings hit the floor was that there was no spacer. Yes to the steps inside the wheel but they looked marginal, but that may have been from abuse and the bearings walking around in the hub. When you tighten the spindle nut the torque setting is "just tight enough to take up the tolerances". Too tight and the bearings bind, too loose and the bearings will walk around. Whats the fix....cut some internal spacers prior to re-installation?

Yup yup! Cut a piece of thick (.90-.100") the width you need in between the inner races. Put a bearing in the wheel. Use a ruler with the smallest graduations in in.... Preferably like at least 32nds..... Measure from the bearing race to the lip on the other side. Measure good..... :thumbsup:
