Acceleration is really good........ Used 3 Speed function of Kelly Controller and 3 position key switch to put in low speed for Kiddo's.

With the controller setting set for the low AH battery, the top end speed is currently at 29 mph. Low speed is probably around 6 mph.

The area where I drive is limited to about a 250 yard stretch, go fast, slow down, turn around, go fast..... I have shuttled kids back and forth many 10's of times in a row.

The components were all sourced independently.

I consulted with Fany at Kelly Controls about this setup. Kelly Controls has provided exceptional support.

I bought KLS Controller directly from Kelly Controls.

Motor and contactor from evdrives.com

Motor Mount from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Manta-10-hp-electric-motor-MOUNT-Etek-Briggs-MT-Pattern-Permanent-Magnet-L-type

Battery from sun-ebike, (which I think is same as sunthing28 on ebay): http://www.sun-ebike.com/

The throttle sensor came from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hall-Effect-Pull-Throttle-3-Wire-PB-6-PB-8-Curtis-Electric-GoKart-Go-Kart-Gas/

After a few months usage, this kart only is driven on dry pavement by kids. The solid rear axle makes it rather hard for kids to turn.

Is there a way I can convert to a single wheel drive while still retaining the solid axle? I thought maybe just getting a non drive wheel for the rear passenger side, but finding bearing with ID of 1" seems impossible.

Ideas?

Get two more bearings and bearing hangars. weld on two more sections of tubing like you already did for the axle, Install bearings side by side, cut axle in half. gulp!!!

You may be able to convert it back to live axle at a future date with a 1" ID keyed collar. Just some thoughts.

Just throwin' it out there

Cut the axle in half

...add (2) pillow block bearings

...(1) on each side of the cut

...& maybe a couple of lock collers :2guns:
