I planned to install a 13HP 420 Harbor Freight engine with 40 torque converter and kit. Will this work properly with the Deluxe KartFab plan? I already almost have the frame together and starting to look at engine options before pulling the trigger on rest of deluxe parts key.

Hoping to get something with little more power, but would like expert advice.

frankly, if we talk about the same KartFab plans, then I'm rather certain the design will be very well capable of handling a 13hp predator easily;
so if you do trust in your welds.. and your building materials
the worst thing that could happen indeed is, that the 420 is physically too big to fit the motor mounting plate as it sits in the plans
(means you'd have to wait for the engine to arrive before you finally weld it in)

But since Grant is a member of DIYGK, I'm sure he'll have a much better founded answer for you than I have ;)

1) The big block engine mount that comes in the kit has a different width, so you would need to attach the supports for the mount at different spots, just keep the engine centered.

2) you can extend the frame about 6" and be alright, especially if you are tall. make sure the seat can slide back all the way without hitting the engine. Maybe moving the engine back as far as you can go would help everything fit, or extending the rear axle back a few inches, and/or extending the area between the gas pedals and the steering hoop a few inches.
