Kartco cart

Went and looked at a Kartco Power Ride go cart, had never heard of one, but I'm a newbe. I'm buying it for my grandson. It has larger tires on the back than the front and its a two seater. Looks pretty good for $200.00 and I think he'll take less than that.

The kart has a 5 hp briggs flathead engine. The guy says he bought it new, it is a clean engine, but can you even buy a new flathead Briggs? I noticed on the web they all used Tecumseh engines.

Sorry for the long lost, but now for a question. The brake and throttle both use rods and they're kind of sloppy. Can these be converted to cables? Maybe a kit with new pedals and cables and hardware? Thanks for any info.

Welcome. First off it is always "k"art Just kiddin but really kart.
Anyhoo, you should be able to get new cables or rods it is usually a matter of personal or manufacturer preference. As this is DIY something like that any thing is possible.
And like you I thought Briggs stopped making Flatheads and everything is OHV. but I have been wrong before.

Just because he bought it new doesn't mean he bought it new yesterday; it's amazing what a can of degreaser & a pressure washer can do...

Tecumseh engines were very popular back in the day but, they went out of favour after the company went bust; they were a cheaper alternative to the B&S but were not as reliable...

It's very possible the holes where the rods fit are worn with age; this can be fixed by welding & redrilling the holes

Not entirely true, they still make flatties but, they're mostly vertical shaft...

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, you're right, he didn't say when he bought it. I've not had a chance to look yet, but I may try to find original rods and pedals before trying to switch the 'kart' over. Thanks again.
