Took the Kart out for it's maiden voyage and the band brake is rubbing the sprocket when depressed.

It squeaks something awful and really does not stop the best.

I had bought a new band brake when ordering parts, but it is not exactly right. It's close, but not tits.

I have searched and cannot find a thread on how to accomplish the switch over to a disc setup.

Here is my build thread for more info on the Kart:

Thanks in advance!

What kind of rear axle do you have> It looks like it's enclosed. Also, post some pics of your band brake set up. Although not the best, it should be adequate for what you have. Let's check that out first.
BTW, how did that carpel surgery work out?

Surgery went well! Thanks for asking!

It is an enclosed live axle.

This is the best photo I have of the setup, but it also shows of the seat. ;)

Might be a tough switch over with that enclosed axle. Can you add a spacer to move that drum over a bit?

Something like this might work:

No it won't because that's an open axle...

It's gonna be difficult to mount a disc brake to your axle, simply because there's nowhere to mount it; the only real possibility is to mount the disc in place of the band drum but, create enough space to mount the caliper so it clears the sprocket. You may end up having to use a series of spacers or a specially designed & built hub...

The only other posibility is to mount it on the other wheel

I really think you should make that band brake work. You said it wasn't quite the correct one, so it's cheap enough, get the right one. I can lock up the wheels with some of the band brakes that I have installed. Keep us updated!

You underestimate my abilities. lol There is plenty of room....

I bent the mechanical rod and it is squealing alot less.

Also, the top sprocket leans in a few degrees, so I should be able to space that out and gain 1/4" more......it is coming along....
