How do i build a go kart using a dirt bike engine? I have an old 125 2 stroke dirt bike that is beyond repair but the engine is still very good. I would like to build a two seater kart for me and my son to cruise around on. I'd like it to have a locked up axle in the rear so both tires spin. Common size rims to make tire upgrades easier. Long story short how do I go about buying one and if not possible what's the cheapest and easiest way to build a frame to fit a dirt bike engine? Pedal powered brakes and throttle.

How handy are you with metal fabrication? There are sources online to buy kits, or you can go buy a pile of square tubing and make it up yourself and source your steering and axle parts from the supplier of your choice. Does your engine have a transmission attached?

I have never seen a dirt bike without an integrated transmission.

Anyway, most karts with dirt bike engines are called shifter karts, and they are only for racing. But people do make other karts with them. The main problem is mounting them. They don't bolt right in like a predator 212 would.

But, if you still have the dirt bike frame, you could probably just leave the engine in the bottom half of the frame and then weld the frame to your kart. It would take some fabrication though.

Jollykarter yes the trans is connected to engine. Also what sites are you referring to where I can buy a kit? & where would I buy the steering and axle components?

You could source a non running four wheeler and get a lot of what you need off of that. I have not done it, but that is a project I am hoping to start soon.

You don't really need a kit, just fab a few pieces of steel onto a plate to hold the engine like the dirt bike frame did.
Keep in mind this kart should reach about 50-60mph, with variable speeds. You'll have a monster on your hands, especially with a two stroker.

I suggest you buy a go kart frame off Craigslist to fit it in. Maybe a buggy would be best.

Theres a ton a vids on youtube about MC engined karts. Northern tool on web has complete frame less rear axle & spindles for 229 USD, not bad really, it mite work for 125cc kart.rear axle & bearing bout 75 buck more less. I have a 2 seater thats going to go same route---hopefully..keep us posted we like projects AND pics...old dog

Build it. tons of online titorials on making engine mount.. very easy if willing to put in some work.. the reward will be worth it
