Kart wants to move immediately when started.

Just got go Kart - excited can't wait. starts right up but when started it immediately wants to move forward. If I step on the gas it will stop and it pretty much works in reverse. as I let off the gas it will then go.

Any advice on what it is thats causing it to go.
Briggs & Stratton 5hp fun power engine.

Sounds like your idle is set way too high. Turn the idle screw counterclockwise until it stops moving.

That's bizzarre. Can you post pics of the throttle set-up, all the way from the pedal to the carb?

Thank you for the reply. Please see the pics attached. Carb only adjusting screw is below for the gas I don't have a idle screw that I am aware of. thanks again for your help.

Sure you're not pressing the brake? LOL, not trying to insult you, it's just that's the most likely thing I can think of.

EDIT: I can't make out much from those pictures. One thing I will suggest though is to GET AN AIR FILTER.

I think somebody just installed the throttle cable from the wrong direction and you just need to swap it around so it pulls the other way. You'll probably need to swap the return spring around so it pulls in the opposite direction too.

Obviously, theres something wrong with your clutch. Get a new clutch.

thanks for your help. here are better photos. again starts up but wants to go right away engine revs up when pressing gas it then slows down. like reverse.

Do you have the choke on?

That engine SURE looks like our mid 80`s 5hp B&S! I was shown that ours is setup to the govenor, instead of throttle plate. Your engine model # should be on the pull rope shroud....GAS

It is a 5 hp Briggs - model # 136202 , type: 014401

I put in a carb kit and that seemed to help - I need to replace the throttle cable
any suggestions on where to get them.

looks like you could just use a bicycle brake cable on your set up

ricky`s right!...just a push-pull cable....ours has got a ball on both ends....Is it STILL try`n to take off on ya??? We went ahead & invested in a new CC...max-torque. BTW, we still don`t have the air cleaner on yet neither....my guru thinks, after i got it going right, it`ll bring down that idle.....GAS

Some engines are just 'eager'. My pocketbike has a similar problem.
