Update:

Anyone that's been following along probably saw the semi o'death I'm making and today was a day for it.

Although only 50 degrees, with hair dryer in hand, outside I am piecing it's cab back together.

It started life as a console of some sort for a boat and boy was it trashed. It had holes everywhere... and that's why I chose it. It was garbage.

Anyway, some work and effort later and we have a nifty piece.

Also, did some work with some crappy 6" Wheels I had put aside. One was a roller, the other was a roller too but it had a sprocket mount on it... so off with a bit of that and made another front wheels out of it.

I wonder what colours you'll draw the contours ...
For the windows (since black is now out of the question);
I'd say find some PE window sunblocker (chrome blabla whatsitcalled) foil
that make a nice window I think; and you might already have it in your shed anyways

You're reading my mind Sid. The windows will be thin aluminum and little screws holding them in place, all around the outside. Grill and lights too will be the same.

Just wait for Bonneville, I have the right treatment in mind for the back end.

Do you have three or four small rods?
then you can actually make some nice grooves for the grill,
three rods next to each other (hotglued or fixed somehow) and it formes two grooves, one as a toolpath of some sort and another as a template for equal distance...

Every now & then, I do buy things from ebay and today something arrived.

Honestly, I'm amazed how much these goons think a can is worth.. and when you see a "buy it now" for under 35 bucks, one must just go & get it before the freaks bid it up to a bazilliondy dollars.

I swear, the best part of working on these is... the work.

Some sandpaper, then wet/dry, then some steel wool with a bit of pressure and this baby is gonna look great.

Artistically, it doesn't go with Bonneville.

Semi has plans for side tanks but they gotta be bigger than this little ole thing. More like mini kegs for the semi.

Ok then... here's my living room with the Semi body piece on my table.

Some 1/2 in graph paper in hand, we're cutting out the templates for the windows, drinking a beer... and watching the blues brothers 2000 on my 57" tv.

Don't worry about the crooked look of the windows, I'm just holding them there for effect and a visual "sizing up" and doing a left handed picture.

It's funny because if you rub the paper enough, static will hold them in place.

Next step is to the hobby shop for some very small screws & nuts...

then what to make these pieces out of....


If I just buy some aluminum stock, it defeats the whole thing because it's about doing with what you have here, so we'll see what I find.

I'm thinking a 1 gallon can-thingy of like pictured below. Its shiny, has nice corner angles and could be cut just right for the pieces.

too high to just use that aluminium tape you had for the bumper?

3 inches. The aluminum tape is cool but I want some thin shiny metal so I can drill little holes and give it a nifty little riveted look on the edges... and a canister like I showed seems to have just the right edge/bend for it to look just right.

Plus, smoothing out aluminEUM tape sucks... cause you nobody can apply that stuff without wrinkles.

Ah makes sense...

May I ask why not use rivets?
smallest I have are 1.6mm (drill hole, not head);
I think they're much easier to apply (in large quantities)
and much cheaper than similar sized screws.
