Always the "optimist," you really "transformed" that kart into something "prime!"

I'm keeping my go-kart semi parodies down to three (and vans to one...those PSAs on kidnappers driving vans really freaked me out as a kid!) But I have written a treatment for a movie that can best be described as, "Not Another Truck Driving Movie." it crams in all the best of truck driving movies, TV, songs, stories and legends.

Well, With spring coming soon, I figured I'd see where I am... and post it. Of course I remember but I wanted to recap this winter.

By the end of the summer, I hope to have 6 functional rides.

Currently, only Urban Defiance and the Sarge are runners. The rest are just works in progress.

So, up for this spring/summer, the 4 rides I plan on finishing up.

The baroness, Bonneville Spirit, Unit 51 and the semi of death.

To get myself warmed up, the Semi of death will roll first as it's pretty simple and is just a test bed for engines.

Then we'll get bonneville going...

Then on to the 2 hardest ones, Baroness & U51.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. It's just I thought there was "more than meets the eye" to this build. Alright, I'm done.

I'm a big fan of Cabovers, firstly Freightliners with double round headlights(of which O.P. was) but this is clearly a K-100 you're going for here. I like it! Makes me feel 5 again, back when C. W. McCall was king of the citizens band!

Continuing on:

I got bored last night so I took the semi out back & hacked off the excess... then added a better rear sprocket carrier. Why? Cause I've got this stack of split sprockets from 67T to like 82T I"ll NEVER use... might as well use em here.

Also hacked down the upper wind deflector, just a tad.

The plans next are to borrow a friends shop for an hour to do the fiberglass patchwork on the body, then we'll put the whole front end on a hinge, just like a real semi.

After that, we'll see if we can find something to make the nifty gas tanks... probably Heineken style mini-kegs or something for that.

This thing is going to look great pretty much how ever you go about it; the #1 thing that "Sells It" is the riveted connection between the roof diverter and the cab roof. When the industry started to adopt them for better mileage, the first ones were often attached the same way as yours, albeit at a slightly different scale.

Another great thing to remember is that a lot of used trucks were rather heavily customized over the years, which pretty much gives you free reign when it comes to making it look "RIGHT" to you personally; any so called "Authenticity Nazi" can just go take a hike, because there aren't that many old trucks that meet the 100% rule after 20 to 30 years on the road.....

Dennis nailed it a few posts back, it's just a beater that happens to resemble the Kenworth K100 cab over. I really won't be going crazy on this one in the looks department. It's just a beater that I can thrash on and test motors easily... with a little character.

Its also great to have a ride where you can "JUST DRIVE IT!!!!!" Yes, we all know that you actually drive ALL of your karts. But if I was in your place, there are times that I wouldn't want to risk, say, Sarge, because I knew I was going to trash him in the name of fun.....

Update:

Some goofing off today with the nice weather, 45 or so degrees & sunshine. Time for some tack welding on the Baroness.

It should come together nicely.

I weld crap together, then cut off what I don't want.
