Hi all. Great forum you have here. I have been browsing all of the threads here since I stumbled upon this forum a month or so ago and decided it was time to introduce myself and what my plan is. A couple of years ago my daughter outgrew her little Barbie Jeep so we sold it in a garage sale and I promised her that I would replace it with a go kart that we could beat around the yard and fields in. My main interest is in acquiring an off road kart, preferably a 2-seater. Being a designer by trade I had grand plans of designing and building one from the ground up. After reading through the many posts on this forum I've since decided that the proper way to start would be finding a decent, used kart (at least mechanically sound) to start with. Tweak and upgrade that as necessary for some fun factor. I've been searching the local Craigslist and classifieds but I haven't found anything yet that I'm willing to take a chance on, but when I do I will be sure to post a few questions here. I don't mind spending money on a kart, I just don't like throwing it away needlessly. Thanks for the ideas I've already gleaned from these pages, and hopefully one day I'll actually become a helpful, contributing member here.

Thank, and possible kart deal....

Thanks for the welcomes. Now I have a question. I found this kart on Craigslist. http://lansing.craigslist.org/mcy/3425849028.html Is $400 possibly a decent price on that Kart? Obviously it needs engine work/replacement, and I have no idea at the moment what a replacement engine would cost. It looks like the off-road style I am looking for, but I have no clue what brand/make it even is.

IMO, $400 is reasonable, just keep in mind that it could cost anywhere from $100 to $1000 to get it running, depending on what choice you make regarding an engine.

It looks to me like a chinese modelbut, I could be wrong...

Thanks Fabroman. I'll do some research on replacement engines. I won't have time to go look at that kart until this weekend. In the meantime I'll keep researching the forum.
