I have an Americanworks 3170 go cart with 6 horse Robin engine. I have modified with a 1" axle to support 22" rear tires moved original 16" rears to front and modified spindles. I am putting an 18 horse duromax engine with electric start so I have more power and lights and such. I ordered a 40 series comet clutch and driver. Do I have enough power to change my 60 tooth to get more top end and can I use this new driver on exsisting jack shaft. How to I order belt for new set up, center is 6-3/4" on old and will try to mount new engine so pulleys are same distance apart. Trying to make a poor mans Razor. Thanks for any info ya'll give. Ps, don't know how to add picks, using I-phone.

What a great first post! Lots of good info included.

The Drive"R" Clutch is what goes on the crank shaft. Should be 1" for your Duromax.

The Drive"N" Unit is what goes on the jackshaft.

What size is the Jackshaft? Is it 5/8"? Is it 3/4"? What size Driven unit did you order? Most common 40 series DriveN units have a 3/4" Bore, but other sizes are available.

When I switched from a 212cc/30 series to a 420cc/40 series I kept the 60T on the axle and used a bigger sprocket on the jackshaft. I went with 60:11 and have 18 or 18.5" tires.

The shortest 40 series belt I know of is for center of pulley to center of pulley distance of 7.25".

What sized sprocket were you thinking of? How fast do you want to go and at what RPM? Are you removing the governor or are we keeping it below 3600?
