Kart is cutting out.

I was running my kart and it started to cut out and eventually shut off completely. It will start back up but once you give it full throttle it will sputter and shut down. This is the first time it has ever happened. One night this week I will take the carb off and try to clean it up. I am also going to go buy a new spark plug. Any suggestions on spark plugs for 6.5 HF?

Not a suggestion but is a requirement. Requirement is Champion RL86C.
Read the manual.

Make sure it's warmed up, and that you're running new gas as well.

It is pretty much stock just have the gov removed with 18lb valve springs. I have an rlv header and a UNI but thats about it. Gas is in it. I checked that first lol.

I will drill out the jet as well.

It probably needs to be rejetted being that there is a freer intake and exhaust. If the jet is stock, I bet lean is your issue.

I wonder why it has been running without cutting out for so long. Do you think the engine could be damaged?

Maybe the carb has collected gunk and isn't getting ample gas flow. Try cleaning the carb throughly before you make any changes.

Drilled out the jet to about .039" which is a little larger than 96.5
Is it a good thing that I dont need to use the choke to start it? It is kind of late right now but I am going to drive it first thing in the morning.

I have a confession to make. I didnt check the gas first and that was the reason it was cutting out.

However on the bright side i drilled out the jet, learned how to take apart the carb, and reinstall it. It was only after I had pulled about 25 times I decided to check the gas. It was bone dry. I just assumed it had plenty in it because I had filled it up the week before last. But I had driven it pretty hard almost every day there after.

I plan on indexing the spark plug 2morrow as well. Is there a specific type of washer I should use to do this?

Most automotive speed shops sell indexing washers. Just bring yer plug along to get the right diameter. But you probably wont notice much difference, like it might knock 1/10 of a second off a lap around your parking lot.

I didnt think it would do much but I enjoy working on it and anything that allows me to get out into the shop for a little while is a good thing. I figure that once I get a real race frame I will have a good general understanding on the engine.

When I first shut off the engine I noticed that the bot for the clutch fell out. I put the washers back in and it didnt quite feel like it was getting tight. I dont think the threads are stripped but It feels like the shaft is spinning still. Is this common when tightening the bolt on the clutch?

if your plug is black, then you probably overdrilled the jet.

the crank shaft is turning pull your strat cord out to hold the shaft in place while tighting the bolt

Sounds like it's running way rich, especially if you don't have to choke it when starting cold. You'll need to lean out your fuel mixture, probably both high and low mix if you have them. You would have had to do this anyway if the carb's been re-jetted / jet drilled.

Oh yeah, if the clutch bolt has come out I'd say you may have stripped it. Think about what would happen to it if you were running the engine with it loose....it would be mashing around in there a lot. You might have to drill and tap it a bit bigger.

I think you are right. I will order a #92. I think it should do the trick.
