I searched for Hudson Engines and i found the old Hudson motor car builders from the
50"s and thats pretty much it.

Is there a way to know if the motor has been bored? If take apart the top end?
As im not familiar i probably wouldn't know the difference between a stock engine
or one thats running a larger piston etc. Should i even crack her open to look?

Thanks a bunch for the feedback fella's..Anyone have a guess or a lead i can follow up
on i would be greatfull

I've found that engines that areidle for a while tend to get bored......:lolgoku:

No practical way I know of telling other than pulling the head and measuring the bore.........

Wish I could help more. ...but add me to the befuddled list......

This thing has me stumped! I've been comparing frames and there's a few that are
Similar but not one that's exact. The Hudson Engine is a mystery in itself.
I'm going to pull the top end off and I'll report back here with my findings and pics.
I may get the frame powder coated and fixer up a bit. She better put out!! Lol

Thanks for taking a look fella's..

:funnypost: I love them commercials.....
Do you REALLY need to know ifits been bored? Just run it..... When it goes out, then figure it out.... It's not worth the time or money, JUST to see if it's over bored.
I don't know everybody gets so hung up on " what frame is this" (other than for parts but almost all kart parts are the same. With in reason and expectations )
You want to know what/who's kart that is? Really? Well, I will tell you then, to ease your mind...... It's your kart, now go out and fix er up........ :cornut:

:lolgoku: Yeah.....You know. .....what's funny. ...not only that....but IF they post a pic.....it's a close-up of a spark plug....." can you tell me what kind of motor this is?"......

Errr....ummmm....NO ....Because for one thing. ...that's not a .motor.. (judjing by the spark plug pic).....but an internal combustion engine....and not no but HAL NO!....Can you identify a car by a pic of the front tire?

Edit: Btw.....Nothing here is directed at you Notheld..... (at least in my post).....

You guys are baffled cause I think it's a dirt kart ! More precise a yard kart or flat kart class kart that usually has a body on it. The thing looks a lot like the one I had except the steering column and the column mount.

And to be sure........

Is the seat offset in the kart ?

Is the steering column off to the left in the kart ?

And do you have the body or is that how you bought it ?

Hmmm... (IMO)an altered Margay, w/ a clockwise engine... interesting. Imagine finding the congruent twin(mirrored) to that motor?! But none the less... It appears you have a reinforced Margay(to me). I think I see the 125cc 2 stroke engines on that kinda kart more so than not... but engines are like hairstyles... hard to decide upon a new one... and if you goto Fantastic Sam's, you have to 'deal' w/ whatever you get for the $...

Poboy - I have a rope. problem is my wife is holding the end of it..

Joe - I failed to mention in my initial post that i did tear off some body work. Its a dirt track kart or sprint perhaps? The kart came with a set of tires with light tread
Steering and seat are dead center.

Poboy - I know my pictures suck but i think the motor is all there in the pic minus the
spark plug..lol

Fireman - **** yeah... Im going to ride it but it wouldnt be me to put some work into
this Kart and not know the details with the chassis and motor. My nature i guess.
Knowing the manufacturer and motor specs really don't do anything but shut the
inner me up. and my wife with a rope.

Question - GEM..Found this stamped into the motor mount. Not much on the web
Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone for chiming in. Tearing down the entire kart this weekend and
to powder coat she goes..No clue what color yet.Maybe candy red or?

oh..how do i start this **** Kt100? buy a starter or can i use an drill?

Cool kart Notheld

Here's a link to the origanal KT100J model engine:
http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/products/kart-engine/push-start/10-kt100j

Then Yamaha made the KT100S model:
http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/products/kart-engine/push-start/10-kt100s

But I think your engine is the newer KT100SEC model, these were available with or without the on-board electric stater option:
http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/products/kart-engine/push-start/10-kt100s

Hudson Engines was most-likely just a kart shop that blueprinted racekart engines. I couldn't find any online info about them, so I'm guessing they went out of business in the 1990's.

I posted some info about KT100 kart starters in this older thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17060&highlight=kt100
(note: these kart starters are available with right or left hand rotation, you'd need a right-hand model)

The GEM company made made motormounts and lots of other components for racekarts and snowmobiles:

Your kart appears to be a 1980's/90's era streat-rail (Sprint kart) type chassis that has been modded for oval racing.

I cant tell what brand your chassis is. There were dozens of different manufactures basically copying each others designs back when yours was made. Look closely and see if you can find any ID numbers stamped into the frame.

It might also help us ID it:
If you post some clear pics showing the details of your brake caliper and front spindles. Also post if your kart seems to have any metric nuts & bolts, (or all american/SAE) and if your rear axle is 1", 1-1/4", 30mm, or 40mm diameter.

andekart - Priceless!!! Thanks a bunch for the plethora
of useful information. Im going down the list this evening..
Gratitude! I'll take some better pics and post them up soon!
Looks like the motor mounts at the time were somewhat
standard for this type of chassis and motor?

Fireman - Im guessing i cant slap on a pull starter? Yam
doesn't make one? I have seen a few Kt100 or similar on
small airplanes and im almost sure they had some type of
electric starter. Reason im looking for a simplified start is for
my son who will certainly try to assassinate me hoping he's the
recipient.

Poboy - A quarter in the klink? Thats a lot of thinking time brother! Hope all is well and yep talking about the Ol lady
would certainly violate a few forum rules...

You need to get a hand held starter or just push start it.
You know, me personally, I'd find a way to put me at least a piece of rope around the crank and give it a yank.... Like maybe modify a cup from a gx/clone. The cup that the pull start fingers grabs to turn engine..... :idea2:
