Hello, I am new to the forum and looking for some advice. I have completely modified an old Thunder Kart Frame to make it more suitable for what I want to use it for. I moved the steering column to the middle, added a live axle, and got smaller wheels. I also might make some more frame supports if I think they are necessary. I plan on making this kart go around 40-45. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? I want to know if it is safe and if I do all the proper modifications if it will work out. I can also post pics. Any advice helps. Thank you!

Pics are always recommended, welcomed and should be mandatory. :p

Believe it or not, 40-50 mph is what the majority here strive for so you are in good company.

Better invest in top of the line wheel bearings because little wheels spin really fast at speed.

Thanks. The reason I ask is because I was looking at an old forum and someone was planning on taking and old dirt frame and making it go 55. Someone said the kart wasn't built for that and to stick to about 35 mph, so I was wondering if the frame I have would be okay for those speeeds. After I added a live axle and all the other modifications, I feel like the frame is well up to the task, but I was just looking for opinions. I have new front wheels with bearings and new rear bearings for the solid 1" live axle. I might post some pics this week.

Just what old forum were you looking at? :p

For speed you should have something low to the ground but light weight and no suspension are good things to have.
Where's the photos? Pics or you're faking it. :D

GoPowerSports has a kart video where it gets up to 49 mph and is probably capable of a bit more:

Ah, don't you hate it when an old thread like that dies with no resolution? It had promise though...
