My kart will run ok for like 30 seconds then it stalls out. Is this due to complete overheating?

It’s a 5 HP Briggs 212, so no oil sensor. Here’s a pic of it. I just took the air filter off btw

I’m now heavily suspecting it’s a fuel pickup problem as when I pour some gas straight into the air intake it runs great

It might be running too lean and quitting. Richen up the idle air/fuel mixture by turning the horizontal screw on the right side of the carburetor OUT (or counter-clockwise) a few half turns at a time, or just a little bit, check the engine and then a little bit more until it runs well. It is preferable to set the A/F mixture to where it runs on the rich side of lean, for the best performance.
The idle air/fuel mixture screw is located at the bottom base flange of the carb, where it mounts to the fuel tank, and it is a slotted screw usually silver in color.
The initial setting for the idle mixture is 1-1/2 turns out from lightly seated.
I am not talking about the idle speed screw attached to the vertical throttle valve on the top of the carb, although that might need adjusting too.

Actually, I think the metric displacement of the Briggs is 206cc and it is often seen on later 5 HP engines right up until the end of production.

It is nothing more then motion creating suction. you can have a pinhole in the pickup but ehhh unlikely. do you like doing things right?? Get a piece of sandpaper and file the pump cover true. now the gasket in between the carburetor and tank... use two gaskets! Do not use two fuel pump diaphragms! use two tank to carburetor gaskets. and finish it off with a new diaphragm. you may have to pull the choke to the choked position take a punch and whack the choke rivet if the choke feels tight do not mess with the rivet. will run like the day Briggs put it on the market.

It would be funny if it was overheating from lack of cooling, like if the fan blades were all broken off the flywheel.
The engine looks like it is in great shape so I doubt it, but wouldn't that be funny?

I did. You were correct with your evaluation of wacky A/F ratios. Also, my idle throttle screw wasn’t right. Basically, I had no idea what I was doing, LMAO. Thank you for the step by step and all the info
