Today my neighbor came to my house. He asked me if i had any extra go kart parts. I said yeah some, why. He said he had just bought a go-kart for his grandchildren and needed an engine shroud. I said yea I have one lets go see whatcha have to see if it'll fit. Went to his garage there it was a 1995 manco dingo. So my shroud fit but he couldn't get it to start. So i go back over there. I ended up opening the idle screw and getting it to go. I said you need anything else. I've got a set of tires too, I see yours are looking bald. So I gave him those too. He says well what do i owe you. I say well since it's something i love doing I'll take 15 for everything I've done, and given to you.

Anyone else have an experience like this where you feel like someone's truly appreciated your skills?

My buddy & I do this sort of thing all the time: Last week he called me & asked "can you help me bleed my brakes?" "Sure, bring it around". Ten minutes later he was in my driveway, half an hour later (we messed around for a bit first), we were done. He goes to hand me a 20, I look at him & say "What?" He just looked at me, put it away & shook my hand.

Every now & then, I'll be doing something that requires more than two hand so, I'll txt him & ask "you got a spare 5 minutes?" Providing he's not at work, I usually get the response "Be there in a few." He also provided the artwork I submitted for the forum logo (eventually)

A couple of days ago, same mate calls me again. "Any chance you can help me load my ipod; he doesn't own a computer & trying to get his stepson to do it is like getting blood from a stone. So, yesterday he comes around & spends an hour or two going through my music (my collection is quite extensive) & loading his ipod. Later on, I got a txt message from him "DOOOOOOOOD, SICK, SICK, SIIIIIIICK"

My neighborhood is pretty condensed and i am now known as the guy who fixes things. I have people come over with generators, mowers, weedwackers etc. i only ask for like five to ten bucks to get them fixed and running right, unless i put new parts in then i charge list price(no markup,no profit).
Here are kids around with scooters and pocket bikes that ask if i can fix broken pull starts or brake cables etc. but i do all that for free for the kids, they tell their parents who then stop by and give their appreciation.
I do that because when i was a kid there was one neighbor who always helped us out no matter what it was and it continued when we got our first cars too. I learned a lot from him and feel i can do the same with the neighborhood kids, i also invite them to stop by anytime i am working on stuff and teach them how to do fix things and build.

Thats my story
