I dont have a 'reason' good enough to explain this thought... but I was toying, in my head, some 'special effects' to add/do w/ my kart...

I was thinking things like... a smoke screen and/or sparks w/ smoke screen...

Smoke screen-white billows of thick smoke expelled from either exhaust or some other means(smoke bombs you ignite is just 'cheezy'...). My friend explained that transmission fluid, in the muffler I built, would do the trick! Seeing as that I made my muffler w/ an end chamber, he explained I could pour bout a tablespoon in and run it hot... and 'that' would produce the preferred amount of smoke.

Sparks-bright trails of sparks indicating the direction in which the vehicle is moving, in low-light conditions or in a smoke screen... I thought of affixing a sticky sandpaper to my driver, and mounting a stick of flint on a choke cable, to rub on the paper when desired... the faster I rev... the further the sparks shoot out, the harder I push in on the choke cable the brighter the sparks. a momentary/variable effect.

Was thinking these 2 effects would be 'hot' looking at dusk time flying down the road at 40-50mph...lol.

I don't think you would want the smoke to be generated by the exhaust..
since you cannot control it it just smokes.

A short length of constantan wire and a battery instead,
could make a smoker with a switch you can turn on and off at will.

Flame thrower.
LOL, I though the same thing!
I think a small piezo on the exhaust could ignite the fumes ;)

Flame thrower.

Ooooooooo... Dont know why I didnt think if that!!!! Any idea 'how'd' you do it?

... Not sure whatcha mean by piezo, sid...?

... and for the smoke, was thinking along the lines of VW Bug ole time heater system to heat the liquid... as well as being able to on/off the smoke...

A piezo is a small crystal that can create a spark when pushed hard enough (electronic cigarette lighter)
I have seen such piezos to ignite exhaust fumes... ... let me search for it.
[EDIT]
there you go:
http://netram.co.za/1075-piezo-igniter.html
can be found on almost any gas grill (sorry BBQ ;))
[EoE]

I don't think you could get a vw-style heat exchanger to work,
I might be wrong though ;)
I still think a small electric heating element is much easier to make
really a 9V battery, a length of ~5" of constantan wire, a switch to turn it on and off
plus a small metal container for the fluid... that's about all there is to it.

I'm pretty sure the custom lead sled guys put spark plugs on a switch to ignite unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Flamethrower. Good times.

Yep, back in the day we would tap a hole in the exhaust tip and run a spark plug to get flames.

.... that's it? Hmmm interesting. Guessing you cant do it to nowadays cars, due to the CAT?... which the 6.5 dont have... hmmm.

...bout how far in do you tap the hole?... and would an ignition coil(like the one that runs the motor... just a separate one), work to 'power' the plug... for this purpose? Suppose I could mount another coil in, to have that usage!

yup, another way of doing it of course..
but you'd need a second ignition coil to spark the plug,
which is difficult to mount on a gx200.

Also the spark plug alone is more expensive than the piezo igniter...
So: less parts, much cheaper.. same effect :D

lol... kk... i understand... but Ive come to believe that the 'flame' is ignited AND sustained by the spark(no spark... no flame)... gonna be kinda hard to keep pushin the 'BBQ button' while driving down the road... would be a kick @$$ power button to turn on/off the juice though! That is unless youre talking bout the battery operated ones.... those may work... but dont they wear out considerably quicker than, lets say a plug?(and FYI plugs, like splitfire, w/ the larger area of spark are only like 3-6$... dont think thats gonna be the bank breaker...plus Id have that nifty plug cover like 'on' the motor dangling outta the bottom...lol

 Jim, that's nice (made note to myself)

Well Tihm depends, sometimes it stays on sometimes it doesn't depends on the amount of combustible fumes...

If in doubt, a small amount of lighter gas (or fuel) added to the exhaust will keep it lit :D

But I think Jims is more reliable than any DIY kit ;)
then again $49.99 compared to $3.99 (for free if you use one off a empty cigarette lighter and extend the cable)

I'm with Alex on this one, smaller & cheaper...

As for keeping the flame going, as Alex explained, the gas will keep the flame ignited; think about it, you dont need to keep your finger on the igniter while you're BBQing, do you?

I think the most difficult thing to figure out is how to activate it from the drivers seat; they're usually a small sealed unit; any ideas Alex?

Hmmmmm.... a BBQ igniter ....run on AAA batteries. ...small hole come with a flange that mounts with a sheet- metal screw.....The push-button part would look cool on the steering hoop.....

Yea I understand the theory of the gas would keep igniting itself, hence keeping the flame 'alive'... but at the rate of speed the air is moving outta my muffler end... im pretty sure it would blow itself out. "If" it were intake fumes being ignited, there would be no second thought on it... but precombusted exhaust probably isnt 'as' flammable to keep the flame 'alive'.

Kinda like how some sprays cans(i.e-hair spray) have a slow enough rate of release vs combustibility to keep the flame alive and some sprays have a faster rate of release vs not as combustible chemical, and blow themselves out... Im thinking 'my' muffler would do the 'latter'...?
