Hello,

My boys outgrew their battery powered power wheels and are gear heads like there dad so I bought a used cart on Craigslist.

I think I've got lots of work to do to make it a runner! It looked decent but when I got it home I discovered that it was badly re welded and needed some repairs. Getting that done by a friend tomorrow.

It runs but it's a bit rough. I have an offer for a new engine but have t talked price yet. Would have to see what's involved in making the swap. This is all new to me.

You will probably find that the footprint of the new engine (if you do get one) will be different from what you have. You might need to drill new mounting holes, or at worse, weld a new motor mount plate onto the kart. You must also keep in mind that the clutch and axle sprockets might be misaligned after the swap and you will have to rectify that. Depending on the engine you get you might also find that the engine shaft is not the same diameter as the previous one. 1" diameter shafts are pricey to get clutches for.

Well, who ever had it before me kind of readneck engineered it (not that there is anything wrong with that) and it's got a lot get R done mods.

Carb leaks pretty bad. Needs some TLC for sure. I'd like to reuse the motor as it was from a snow blower and has a electric plug in starter on it that would make it easy for the boys to use.

Can you guys help me out with the drive system from these photos?

Looks like there is a clutch like mechanism on the left of the motor. I assume that when RPM's spin up. it engages. It has a small sprocket on it connected to a larger sprocket that is connected to the drive axle.

Do I have that right?

Yup, you got it right. The engagement rpm depends on the weight of the shoes in that clutch and the springs. Looks like a neat cart. The only thing that immediately concerns me is the position of the fuel tank. If your kids don't get the fuel cap on tight they may be taking a shower in gasoline. :smiley_omg:

Yeah, that was a bit scary but not an issue any more. I bought a Predator motor form HF. Gas is now at back of cart.
