Well I've been on here off an on for a year or so. Figured I make a thread on what me and my oldest son have been up to . Over a year ago I bought a used old beater from a kid on cl . Got it running with the original Subaru engine and had fun with it til the motor seized from being uncovered in a rain storm and caught in a mini flood in the back yard. It sat untouched for awhile and last Saturday I finally got be a harbor freight special 6.5 . Since then my oldest son and me have been tearing it down mocking things up and welding stuff up . I made some tie rods out of some old car end links to replace he bent weak ones . welded a switch plate for the lights. Kill . Choke pull .. And made a header out of 1&1/4 piping I had laying around wih a car axle nut at the end so I can screw in a cheap can muffler . Till need to fab a bracket for a brake switch and figure out some bench seat ideas . Let me know if you have any ideas on that and what you think so far . Love the site and look forward to picking up this new hobby .

Nice job- but something I noticed in the very first picture....Why did you bend the bejabbers out of your spindle arms and heim joints?

This kart looks vaugely familiar. ...Somewhat like a Manco Red Fox 2 model 415D........

Well if your going off the first pic that's when we got it . Tie rods and where the mount at the spindle on one side was bent almost all the way up . So I just welded this up which has worked out so far . But I'll get better pics of the steering tonight . If it's not right I want it to be right

Then do yourself a favor..... go to gokartsrus.com and download the manual for a Manco Red Fox2 415 B/D and get the parts to fix it right. ..They are cheap enough. .....

BTW- Unless I'm mistaken- you can also replace those tie rods with all-thread from Home Depot....just saying.....

Yea at that time when we first got the cart is when I did that . We had got the cart together and notice that it wasn't tracking right . The rods were bent and hem joint at the spindle was busted and couldn't find one local at that time , went to a few lawn mover service places . I'm a mechanic by profession (Aamco transmissions) and collect good parts that have been replaced . Had this volvo end links with good ball joints .Made sure there was enough over lap to get good beads even though they may not be the prettiest in some areas (ugly side faces down lol) . Thanks for heads up on the parts Catalog there is a few pieces I want to track down . The actual Front spindle spacers between the wheels and spacers for between the hub and sprocket . Thanks for your time and thought of actual good opinions (got the pm) . I'm on a few automotive performance forums and it's a lot of bump, bump, bump of the month .

OK- Hope this helps. ...turns out my phone takes pictures in the dark!
:lolgoku: Looks like the PO may have jacked with the pitman arm as well. .....

Edit: BTW: Jordan Malone just brought home the silver for Denton Texss!

Anyway - yeah, the spacer goes behind the tie rods on the pitman. The tie rods are reversed and it looks like the pitman arm has been bent to a different angle......

What you have would probably work fine - but I would change the order of the pitman/tie rods to mine.....

... your kart has strong similarities to mine... but mine is... VERY much custom made. I even went as far as removing the bench seat, n fusing in a solo seater(just so kids wouldnt have a reason to ask..."can I ride Mr?"

Well lil update . Got the kart out on the streets tonight with my sons and wife . Man the new motor ( predator 212cc ) runs awesome . After riding and seeing a top speed of 25 going up a long hill and down I knew something was up . The motor gets it right off the bat but tops out quick , so with my son driving I reach back and push the throttle and sure as **** it gets up to 32mph pretty fast . Get home . Shut the motor down and had my son push the throttle . travel is max'd out with more the half throttle to go . So I think I need to redo the petal stop Here's a few pics of it together . Ordering a new jet also , so I can install the intake I made . Puts a smile on my boys face ( and mine ) so I happy so far .

VERY nice indeed! Motor looks 'meaner'! Hows the mirror working out?... is it stable enough to use(vibrate too much)?

Nifty idea on the windshield frontend...

How is the brake light being engaged(how do you have yours rigged up)? I been strongly thinking of addin a 12V system to my kart, for constructive purposes... just been too busy w/ the motor lately....

I actually used duplicolor caliper part with ceramic . It lays down thick and flat and after drying leaves like a almost powdercoat looking finish . . looking also at new brake setups . This drum brake isn't cutting it now . Just takes to long . Thanks guys for your comments and opinions

Well been riding the last week or so almost everyday with the boys .raced a lil pocket rocket also , and won lol . With the throttle stop screw in a 3rd of the way almost it's hit 37mph . When I let off the gas at times and when I shut the motor off it lets out a pop and flame also lol . All I have installed on the motor at this point is the header and re-gapped plug . Need to get a new jet still so I can install the intake ) stock for right now ) also need to fab a exhaust brace to . The header nuts will vibrate lose a little bit after riding .. Installed 2 12volt rechargeable battery's and charging system from my oldest sons razor scooter and ditched the heavy car battery . Now plug in and charge .With this combo the lights are brighter actually . Also mounted a brake light switch finally . So it's had running ,and now a brake light in the rear . Need new tires for the rear. going to go wih a flatter tread to match the fronts .

So had a question . I've been playing with the gear & speed calculator and it not giving me the speed that the cart is going . Average top speed is 36-37 mph so far ,With one time hitting 39 mph on pretty flat ground . The calculator is saying I should be hitting the 25 mph area . Maybe I'm putting the info in wrong or something. Clutch & sprocket are 12-80 combo with 15x6-6 rear tires . Only mods is custom header, spark plug regapped . Throttle stop screw turned all the way out and running 93 octane if you count that lol ( my trailblazer ss and turbo rx7 have to run it so a extra gallon in a can when I'm there for the cart isn't breaking my pockets ) . In the end I'm not complaining . Just thought I may change the bigger sprocket to a smaller count for a lil clearance and the fact that it's a one wheel spin of death from a stop . Governor has not been removed either . Thanks guys for any insight on that .

As far as updates . Got new rear tires . Painted the headlight glass housings yellow . And oldest son curb checked the wheel and bent the tie rod mount at the spindle ( already fixed ) . Possibly getting another kart in the next week or so from a friend's friend that has like 7 of them laying around . Also getting 2 engines from another friend for free . Says one is a fun sports engine and the other can't tell and still have the stock lil subaru robin ex13. So I got a choice of a lot of stuff for the next build :)
