I've found an old Suzuki Katana at a dealership near my house. Actually, two. The guy said he'd give us both for less then 1000, but I pretty much just want one.

Now, I think I'm getting a little too ambitious, and since I'm quite inexperienced I'm sure I'm asking for too much. My question is, can I take this engine and NOT make a shifter cart? If not, I have a few boot-legged ideas on how to make it work, but I'd rater not blow myself or my friends up:p.

Asking for a lot, eh?

Well, I'm just wondering if I can use it without shifting gears. Talking it over with everyone else, and they don't want to have to shift gears, but we DO want the engine...

I was afraid of that... any idea how I could get it to shift gears? I can sorta figure out how to disengage the clutch, but shifting the gears is kinda stumping me...

You just need to make some linkage from the foot shifter pedal to an arm shifter, very simple. There is really no way to effectively use it without the gear box.

if you really wanted to you could run just put the engine in gear and then run a chain to a jackshaft with a sled primary on it and go from there but It would be a waste of space and weight on a kart. why don't you want it to shift?

Now theres something I've never seen done before. Probably would be cool with a small mc engine, but if you had a real powerful mc engine it would probably be a waste.

They have those semi automatic bike engines, that you shifter but dont clutch. I believe they use centrifugal clutches. Personally i like the clutch, its half the fun of a shifter kart.

the reason i don't want it to shift is because my girlfriend wants to ride it, as well as a few friends who are against it (don't really know why) plus i just wanted it to be a little easier on me...

then make a harbor freight clone kart with a torque converter for them and make a super duper powerful shifter kart for you!

wooowwww 1000cc...
i cant say anything against this, because i would love to do it, but 1k cc is ALOT you better be gentle on the throttle or youll be melting your tires into puddles of rubber from all the burnouts. on the other hand the first time you take her (the cart) out, open her up alll the way!!!!!! wooo hooo. jk:roflol:

i hope you understand how much power is behind an engine like that. and you design your kart accordingly beefy.

goood luck tho... should be perty wicked!
