Haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Unfortunately, what Johnsonville calls a "brat" is a far cry from the real McCoy. But, all things edible have a place, it's up to us to figure out what it is.

My Appartment doesn’t allow grills and there is no gas in the building.
I am forced to cook my steaks on the stove top. It’s obviously an electric range.
I turn the heat to hottest setting and wait til the pan starts to smoke before I toss the steak on. The 1” thick NY Strip steak is pulled from the fridge, patted dry with paper towels, then seasoned with garlic salt. Steak is tossed in the pan and seared for 1 minute on each side. After a total of 4 minutes, I add butter. I coat the top of the steak, flip, coat the other side, and flip again.

Anyway. How long does it take to cook a 1” thick NY Strip Steak?
I’m setting the over / under at 6 minutes.

Maybe try a waffle iron
…& get some kool waffle/grill marks :2guns:

You "coat" the top of the steak with real butter? :smiley_omg:
...your gonna kill yourself :lolgoku:

* Also, turn your stove down too (once up to temp) :cheers2:
...or the outside of it will be burnt, before the inside gets done :ack2:

Nah, I like it with a little Char on the outside and medium rare. The butter helps get the outside charred up. If I cook bacon for baked potatoes, I’ll use bacon grease instead of butter. Anything longer than 6 minutes and it’s over cooked imho.

Bob I'm in a similar position as you. Except my apartment complex does have a grill we can use at the clubhouse, however, I sure am not walking that far to do that with a bunch of people around. So I use an aluminum skillet with a cast iron like coating and it works great. Just sucks to clean. I usually cook steaks on about setting 7 on the stove for a bit for a medium rare.

There is another way that I like to make a medium rare steak. It's called reverse sear. Season the steak and put it on a wire rack over a cookie sheet in the oven at 225°F for about 35 minutes then put it in a skillet on high heat to sear it for 30 seconds a side.

One of my favorite breakfast dishes is hashbrowns with a sausage cooked in it, or fried red potatoes.

I watched a video about this sausage cooker.
It seems a little strange to me to have an appliance dedicated to cooking sausages and nothing else. How many sausages do you eat? Why not cook them in a pan? I usually just brown my sausages in a pan. About two minutes on each side. Then I add some water, bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and let simmer for about 10-12 minutes.
I do like the temperature probe that checks the internal temperature of one of the sausages. I still couldn’t justify having an appliance that strictly cooks sausages.

Yes indeed.

Add all those to your Ronco Showtime Rotisserie. You did buy one, right?

I have an old friend who has one and actually swears by it.... :D
