There arent a whole lot of things to do when your 14 or 15 that are related to mechanics. You may be able to get a job in a dealership parts department, but im guessing most would want someone at least 16.

For your age, I've suggested this to several people, you can do well at this time of year if you are willing to mow lawns, fix lawnmowers, hire people to mow working for you, do the repair work, etc.

It can be very profitable if you are willing to go out and do this labor.

this worked for me.. get a lawn mower, gas weedwacker, and broom. go door to door and charge 8 dollars a lawn. more depending on size. most people will just pay you 10 for an average size lawn. this worked out very good for me. after time you develop regular customers. i would average 50 to 75$ a day. the best part is grass always grows back. good-luck out there man.

$8 a lawn?? How small are these lawns? I applied for autozone, you have to be 16. if you know someone who works in a small engine repair shop, you could probably get a job there.

I would apply for a job at autozone, but the closest one is in the ghetto and I need to be 21 to get my concealed carry permit. Same goes for pizza delivery.

Well, got any old lady neighbors? Ask to mow their lawn/shovel drive way/do whatever they want.

As far as mowing lawns go, if you're good enough, you could employ others, spend your time delegating and fixing engines/buying parts.

Here in Texas we have hispanics everywhere that corner the market on this, in west virginia you may not have that. Also, if you get big enough you can get contracts from businesses to do their lawn work. You can grow this into a big money deal.

Try the local supermarket. I do checkout and stack shelves. I get a pretty nice income working 2-3 days a week and almost everyday on holidays. Put it this way, i can build a go kart with 3 weeks wages.

Cool story about supermarkets. My girlfriend worked at Kroger for about a year (while we were in college) as a customer service supervisor. One of the baggers as a 17 year old boy with 5 siblings, father deceased and mother struggling. He worked 40 hour weeks while going to highschool. He worked his way up to cashier, then floor supervisor, now at 19 years old he is the actual store manager of a supermarket and supporting his family and 4 younger siblings (I wouldn't doubt that he makes more than his mother).

Obviously this is not the sort of thing to where you can say we all strive to manage supermarkets, but this kid is a testament to survival and perseverance. He is also almost done with his first semester of college. I think that is phenomenal.

imSRB - Whatever you end up doing, do it well. This country has great possibilities for people who are willing to work for their money. I think this is our main problem as a nation that most people simply want handouts and re-distribution of wealth, but I do not mean to turn this into an argument of political stance.

Good luck to you, I still think if you want to play in the mechanical world you might try my suggestion, a parts counter at a auto dealership may be amazing though if you can get your foot in there.

If there are plenty of illegal Mexicans up here in MI, I'm sure West Virginia has plenty to mow lawns and swing hammers.
