Wow, I would have never thought that scratch thing was worth that much.

Unfortunately, I don't usually have internet on my phone... when I do, it's slow enough to be useless, so looking stuff up when I'm out and around would be difficult for me. Screen is rather low-res too. But I suppose if I see any yard sales it'll be worth a shot.

As far as actual jobs go:

I shave, wear clean clothes (polos, non-baggy shorts, khakis if it's cool enough, etc.), I usually won't even wear a hat, I don't go there when it's busy, I try and talk to the manager/whoever is in charge of hiring, make small talk, introduce myself first, shake hands, etc. I've worked at a fairly formal country club in the past... hard to explain what I did but I was basically the face of the golf operation, second to the golf pro there. I go beyond the general appearance/personality/enthusiasm expected there when looking for jobs.

RANT ALERT!

Nah, it was technically the 'Pro shop attendant' but we were horribly understaffed... I ran the register, scheduled tee times, sent golfers out, organized/inventoried products, answered the phones, gave people information on membership, upcoming events, etc, cleaned the shop, entered golfers' scores into the computer when they were too lazy to do it themselves, took golfers' golf bags/push carts out of storage when they needed them, cleaned their clubs and put them back afterwards, rented out the golf carts, organized them out front when they were returned, sold (and had to know about) all the products in the shop, I had to get the kids off the course (requiring me to lock the shop, run out and get their info, check it against people we have already and if they had been caught on the course before, call the cops and have them arrested for trespassing), either close or open the shop depending on whether I was working mornings or afternoons, and I had to deal with almost every single customer complaint... those people acted as mature as 10 year olds, always getting into little arguments with each other. All while probably around 400 people per day were coming through (oh, and I was the only one in the shop aside from the pro). I also had to stop people from sneaking beer onto the course (it's a huge problem... lots of people do it, everyone gets pissy, and you have to run out on the course after them)

On top of that, the pro was one of the people who expects you to always know exactly what you're doing (and you get yelled at for 10 minutes if you mess even the stupidest thing up, even if you currently have work you need to do)

He took off early and came in late almost every day, some days he wouldn't come in at all, and he spent a lot of time out playing golf... not like the usual 1 round a day for a pro, more like spending 3/4 of the day on the course. And of course if you called to ask a question during any of those times you got an earful. While he was there though, he did help with the work some, thank god.

I don't want to write a whole 10 page report on this... long story short, there was so much stupid s**t going on there it was pretty much impossible to not 'screw up' in some way that ended up with you getting yelled at for 10 minutes straight, even when you had important work to do. Then you got yelled at for not doing that work. This was a rather formal/higher end country club too. And the pay for all this? $8/hr. In all honesty, I'd rather have flipped burgers and made $2/hr.

He//, I could flip burgers for $8/hr and not catch any of that flak at the local place where a few friends work.

Moat of what you listed is pretty much right down the line pro shop if they truly had 400 people a day which I doubt that would be tight on 36 holes that is is an under staffing issue. Any place you work will pay min wage unless it is under the table or a server job. Me I would rather work at a golf course than Bk
