well I wanted to build a minibike chopper like the rest of you cool dudes but I was like "this is gonna cost alot of money :(, no frame, no motor, no nothing." then I saw a guys thread who mad eone with a 5hp out of one of those occ chopper pedal bikes form walmart. and I was thinking "hey, that looks familiar...I got one of those!" more specifically I have the jesse james version bobber style that came out breifly. so the only thing now is a motor, I plan to buy a 18hp v-twin (running) from a friend for 200 and then i need a throttle and some cutting and welding done for the mount, I also want to weld a sprocket to the rear wheel.

ok, you changed plans fast, im guessing you gave up on the shifter kart? An 18 twin wont fit easy into a wally world chopper, and you will have to beef everything up, and extend/make that thing A LOT bigger. . You cant just weld a sprocket to the back tire, what happens when it wears out? Thats also a lot of engine for a chopper, a 5hp would scoot you along just fine.

Also, not to sound like a dick or anything, but i really think you should read up and research a little, maybe start out with something smaller. It seems like your just thinking of all these great ideas, but arent thinking out the little parts. I was like you at one time, now i have a bike with a chainsaw engine welded to it, collecting rust, because i got started than realized it wasnt going to work. If i had thought it out i would have saved a nice old saw and some time.

yup using that frame isnt taking the easy way out like your thinking. youve also got to consider the drive chain and the width of the engine. your going to need a jackshaft and a clutch or tc and thats the stuff that adds up quick

I haven't given up on the shifter this is just still another build plan
but I still want the 18hp on something so what if i put it on the shifter (making it a non shifter...) and bought a 6,5 clone for the bike? and i know it will cost some money but ever since i got into things have been coming together for me and I would really like to do it, and u didn't sound like a dick, you were just being truthful.:cheers2:

ps: for the shifter idea is on hold because I'm selling the one from the post for 200 and getting another (bigger) frame for free to fit me better. :) but live and learn by your mistakes or others mistakes, thanks on the advice guys

I know the 18 twin is tempting, but it isnt the best engine, and IMO its not worth the $200 (im sure ill get tons of **** for saying that). The 18 twins are great engines, but a 125 two stroke bike engine will put out 30hp, and have a 5 or 6 speed transmission, for half the size. If this were me, i would buy a clone or some other small engine (you could prolly find a 5hp briggs off a pump, or edger or something for less than a clone) for the bike, and while you build that keep an eye out for a bike engine for your kart.

well, i know i could find an engine off of a other thing but I want a newer motor so im going for this clone http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=66015

and I could get the twin for less if I buttered him up a bit.

PS: and that clone would only be aorund 80$ if I can remember who told me about it and get the coupon for the discount

yay I might (hopefully) be getting a rear wheel that can withstand some more power, i'll just have to adjust the back to fit it if i need to.

the vespa wheel would be better than a doughnut from a car. you may find an old moped for cheap on craigs'. it will have similar sized tires and drum brakes, possibly a good motor. 50cc mopeds will do around 35mph.

it could, could being the operative word. there was a guy who stubbed a trailer axle and used it for his rear axle. you need to know the size of the tire, the size of your frame's wheel opening; if the wheel will fit depth and width, you may still need to reinforce the arms that hold the wheel. the doughnut is heavier and will take more torque to get rolling, and you will need good brakes to stop. also remember doughnuts are only meant to run 50 miles or so, not sure how it would hold up on mini. use caution.

i figured a oughnut on the chopper would last a bit longer (seeing as a chopper weighs about 3000 less pounds than your average car...) so I think it would be ok, but yeah brakes will be an issue

well i will say that with a little thought a doughnut will work fine, at least i have found out, it is a bit heavy, but it makes it look like a pretty fat tire when all its rigged up....

ill be making a post on this build soon...

i have wheeled it around the shop a bit, but it hasn't been started yet, i haven't rigged up the drivetrain or have a brake caliper to stop.
