I am redoing a kart for my grandsons (7-12 years old.) it's an old 1960 Rupp Super-K live-axle and will initially have a 6.5 clone on it. Initially I want to keep the thing at about 15mph until they get used to the thing, then re-gear it so faster speeds can be obtained. So I decided a jackshaft setup would be the best way to go so as not to necessitate a large axle sprocket. As opposed to a multi-piece kit I thought an engine-coupled single piece unit would be better/simpler and have narrowed it down to these two units.

The first is an engine-mounted unit from minichoppersocal.com. shown is the unit mounted to a barstool. The second is an one-piece unit from BMI that mounts under the engine. What do people here think? Costs are about equal.

Thanks Ken for the link on the first one. That looks like an interesting option. I'm trying to figure out how to jackshaft my fixed axle cart. This looks like it might work for me, too, without me having to move the engine to the other side of the cart and have a bunch of stuff welded on.

anyway to put some sort of chain guard on a setup like this? I'm a little nervous about all this exposed chain and sprockets and my 8 year old son. Thanks for any ideas.
